Russ' mint green FRST , update :)
Re: Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 23/3/13
"Also made a start on heat wrapping my exhaust only had 10m so only got the down pipe and exhaust system up to underneath the gear linkage done but was applied wet , wrapped tight and overlapped about 50/50 as I'd rather have too much overlap than not enough, quick pic of the down pipe "
Made a start.... Ie means iv started something and it isn't finished
only had 10m so only got the down pipe and exhaust system up to underneath the gear linkage done.. Suggests that I didn't have enough and that I wasn't finished
Does it have to be in plain English or can you not understand the meaning behind words together?
And how is heat wrap pointless? Lol it is designed to keep heat IN the exhaust so
1 it stops heat soak to the alternator and starter motor which are very close with the t3 turbo
2 keeping heat in the metal of the exhaust makes the air flow faster through it therefore improving the way my engine gets rid of exhaust gases which also at the same time will suck in fuel and air on the over lap so getting exhaust gases out the engine is extremely important and even more so on a turbo .
3. Keeping your exhaust hot keeps the gases hot and on over run this makes for a lot more fun with pops bangs n flames already doing that little bit has made a difference
I'm not arguing just stating my opinion, heat wrapping has been tested extensively and a lot of motor sport use it

the difference would be so minimal on a small engined car its not even worth noting

i dont mean to argue either mate, just cant see the reasoning behind it, more OCD than anything imo

REGARDLESS OF WHTHER YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THAT AREA BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT DPESNT MEAN ITS NOT A VALID REASON FOR DOING IT

SO YOU THINK ON SMALL ENGINE CARS ITS NOT WORTH DOING BREATHER MODS???
So you haven't ever fitted , air filter exhaust systems. Decat, manifould , blank off egr etc. etc. as they all do the same thing if you want more power from an engine you have to improve its volumetric efficiency... This is done by increasing what you can get in and out of the engine. In the time between compression strokes..
If you refuse to see the point behind what's been tried and tested to work and is quite basic understanding of engines and tuning them then its not " your opinion" it's just you being stubborn and saying you don't think it does anything ... So because you have told me not to do it, and yet clearly it's been tested and used variously in Motorsport I should disregard all this and not do it as YOU think it's pointless...
It's not all about doing big "10bhp" mods to your car as said by many people that modify cars the difference between my car/engine and another person doing the same thing is the little bits other people over look and think there not worth doing, then when it comes to it one engine has a significantly higher bhp/torque and a much nicer graph than the other and then they wonder why....
I haven't tried to cause an arguement , but you've commented on my progress on my car calling it a waste of time, then when given the reasons behind it being done you still sit there and think I'm not admitting someone knows a little bit more than me on something and just turn childish .. Just boring and pathetic
Regardless of what you think of what iv done the 2 main reasons were
Keep heat away from the alternator and starter motor
Make the over run sound better
If it does either of these two I'm happy the whole £20 I spent wrapping my entire exhaust
Just because one person sees it as pointless doesn't mean to say the task is pointless

Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 23/3/13
I fail to see how heat wrapping the exhaust could possibly be a 'bad' thing?
There's no downsides, so if Russ wants to do it, then Russ can do it.

And as you've been told so so so many times your opinion is not welcome or valued , I have struggled to maintain decent to you as every time you just act a bell end about stuff .. I wouldn't mind half as much if you had said something about the progress but all you said was about what I'd done being pointless...
As iv said before if you ain't got anything nice / progress related not just your opinion on me doing stuff wrong in your eyes don't comment on my thread ... You've been told this loads of times jony

Did I? Sorry mate was miles away heading to work it's a shame when you saw it it was absolutely filthy don't worry I have cleaned it since but thanks
Not much been happening lately just trying to save money for bits I want
My gaz coilovers are fubbared basically the fronts have gone soft and bouncy and the rears have gone crashy and knocky, I would love to get these returned but I can't not use my car for the time that they'll need to be sent off to be sorted out. so I'm going to have to save the £560 for a new set of gaz coilovers,
plus I want to change the rear beam to a zetec s beam
And more poly bushes, including a decent set of wishbones,
Also Iv still got to strip down my LSD box and see if the diff is ok , hopefully it is and I can put it in a ib5 gearbox
And another thing iv bought a new engine going to keep the spec fairly quite ATM until I get some progress done on it, so not going to bother tuning the cvh anymore just going to keep it alive n serviced whilst I build my new motor

Re: Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 23/3/13
Well tbh not much progress has been made lately , but iv started a new job which means il have alot more spare money to put I to her now . Main things I can say that have changed are iv painted the wheels graphite grey was wary at first as I liked the silver but its grown on lots now and I defo prefer them
Also latest purchase is a front mount Intercooler can't wait to get this fitted and paint the front bumper
And I thought sod it i might aswell let some info out, I'm building a new engine for this and no surprise its going to be a zetec turbo iv done lots of research into this and have already collected a we bits together towards the build. I am aiming for ~300bhp but tbh anything over 250 and il be well happy
Will release more details as and when the engine progresses got a f**cked hand ATM so can't do anything on the car
Also at the stage of gathering some temporary suspension so once funds are complete I can get my gaz coilovers rebuilt
It's not a massive update but its some new pics n info
Comments welcome

Thanks v much yea I think they're a good look I'm giving its clean today do if I remember il try n get some better pics up
Yea I can't wait for the new engine to be done the pistons are good for around 400bhp but will only be on standard rods with a little work for the first part of the build , no doubt il want more power and get steel rods later on

Thanks nick more to come soon
Gus you'll get there mate can buy this engine once iv built my new one if ya like haha
Had a go at fitting the "made to fit" Intercooler yesterday and the bottom pipe is just hitting the front panel, so I'm going to take it into work cut the bottom pipe off and weld it back on at an angle so should clear
Will update as n when stuff is done

FRSJON :car looks great and good news on the zetec turbo if i can any advise on it it would be to try and afford a aftermarket management system. easy to make your power figures then
Thanks yes altho I like the cvh and does everything I need it to do ATM When i want good power i need reliability with it being my daily motor. Plus the extra torque will always be nice I am wanting to go standalone tbh just the cost of them is going to take a while to save up for
But I was planning on using the OFAM ecu boost monkeys sell, considering iv already rebuillt my engine loom I don't want to do that again and is megasquirt so should be fairly easy to get someone within the south east to map it lol I do have a few questions about the zetec turbo build I would like to ask but tbh I want the spec to be a little of a surprise so don't want to ask these questions openly.
Intercooler is being tig'd tomorow as the bottom pipe on it that comes out straight was just hitting straight on the front cross member? Can't think of the word for it, behind the front thin panel the chunky box section like part the rad sits on etc. I'd rather adapt the Intercooler than cut away at that so the bottom pipe is being welded back in at the same angle as the top pipe. Should be able to close the bonnet then only thing that annoys me is I didn't really want to see the top of the cooler I wanted it to be hidden behind the top of the bumper . This isn't going to happen and iv already cut the bumper about
I will get pics of progress soon... I hope lol

Re: Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 2/6/13
I'm just going to leave this here
It's not finished but its plumbed in and in the hole have a fair few bits to do going to replace the bumper as the crack has grown and I haven't cut it very well tbh if I'm honest I didn't want it sticking out of the top of the bumper like it does but its so big it would only fit with the bottom inline if not lower than the splitter :/ but its grown on me looks aggressive
Opinions?
Russ

if i were walking down that street and seen this going on, id be in heavan and without due thought start talking and watching.. the only problem with a garage is no one knows what your potching with
opinion sides, id say you may get cooling issues with the radiator covered like that
does look very agressive, paint your bonnet vents satin black imo, would add to the aggression

thanks I'd love a garage tho, especially when its anything but a nice day
Iv seen quite a few people running intercooler a like this, one of the GRS coolers pretty much touches the headlights either side !
My rad is an uprated all alloy one so should be ok on the move and il fit two fans in behind the cooler to keep her cool, also I can move the rad further forwards now which means its further away from the turbo which will help I defo understand where your coming from. Only one way to find out
Wouldn't mind doing them graphite grey as everything else is lol but shall see as it needs a proper spray at some point. I'm going to trim the very bottom of the bonnet off about 10mm worth , get a new bumper and replace to lower part of the front panel as its started corroding and might aswell just replace it now I'm working in the weld n fab trade with all that I should be a&e to get it to sit properly and where I want it
Thanks for the comments tho nice to know your not the only one that likes it

I'll translate...
If I were walking down Russ' street and saw this fine car being worked on, I would be in heaven. Without hesitation I would start talking nonsense, stare and interfere. The problem with working in a garage is nobody can see what I'm bodging up and I'm all alone.
Sorry, couldn't resist BANTS
