Both have LSD,but S1 has different mountings, S2 version is direct swap. S2 gearbox is no different externaly to any FWD Ford (Fiesta,Escort,Orion) after 1986 to -95

s2 turbo box better for motorway driving because of the 3.82 final drive. s1 box better for accelaration but not for high speed, i think final drive is 4.61 but i am not sure s2 box will probably suit the 2.0 zetec

you mean your not sure if the s2 will suit the 2.0 zetec?
so the s1 is better for acceleration and the s2 for top speed. if i went for the s1 is it a big job to alter the mounts then?

i use a s2 erst gearbox on my 2,1zt.
it´s a direct fit!
i think the 3,82 is a bit long,
but good for crusing
130kmh in the 5th gear with ~3000rpm.

i think the lsd is a bit dangerous to drive,
if i accelarat hard,the car runs straight,
and in the next second it pulls very hard in a side
always both hands on the steering

Blimey! well mine isnt as powerful as a zt so i wouldnt of thought i would have that problem, or not as bad.

so both the s1 and s2 would be a direct fit?

I know the S2 will fit as I am after one for my 2.0, I am sure without big power you will never get the full out of an S1 box.
