S1's new car... and it's not what you might expect...
Cos it's this
Golf Gti Sportline Cabrio, 1993, 91k
Many thanks to Nonads for taking a look to confirm it was worth my time viewing.
It came with the BBS RM's fitted with stretched tyres plus a set of std BBS RA's. The RM's are going, should get good money back for them. The RA's need a refurb as two are black and two silver. I've taken a fancy to some fifteen52 snowflakes as well!
Mechanically it needs a few bits doing, the rocker cover leaks, the gearchange is like stirring pudding and the clutch needs adjusting.
I absolutely love it though, there's nothing like a bit of open top motoring

First VAG car I've actually had on the road, had two cabbies and a Mk1 1.3 before.

Smo :Looks very nice! The top all good still?
The roof is very good, a little bit of stitching has come undone but otherwise perfect.

TBF it drove like a bag of $hite, the clutch was right at the top of the pedal, the steering was so fookin' heavy and the gearlever was like a pudding stirrer. I've sorted the clutch out, was only a simple cable adjustment, Ive ordered a rose jointed gear linkage and I put the std BBS RA's on. It drives much better already. Next up will be a refurb of the std RA's as two are silver & two are black/silver. I will also polybush it throughout, new lower arms/ball joints etc.
I also fancy a new set of wheels, I phoned up about these today, hopefully be in stock this week, Fifteen52 Snowflakes, a modern larger copy of an original VW wheel -
Ive been out today with the top down and am lovin' it! It's so different from driving an RS about!

Certainly isn't what I'd expect...quite a change!
I remember seeing a lad building up a 20V 1.8T Mk1 hardtop Golf Cabriolet in about 2004, when I was messing around with the TDi engine in my ZT. He was telling me only about ten hardtops were made...not sure if that's true? Either way, you should definitely install a 400bhp lump Pole

NICE. Always wanted one of these. Looks good on the rims too. My total VAG ownership was seven days - I bought a Mk2 Golf Auto a couple of years ago, and the very next day the auto box shat itself. Wasn't impressed. But I keep thinking I want to redress the balance with a Golf cabbie like this one. Nice buy dude!
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

I've always fancied one of those semicircle shaped Passats on Polish plates with some crap tints and halfords alloys held on with 3 wheelnuts

Re: New car... and it's not what you might expect...
It's been a while since I updated this hasn't it!
When I first got it, it drove awfully. I ended up replacing all four wheel bearings, polybushed the whole car including engine mounts, replaced the gearlinkage with a rose-jointed affair, adjusted the clutch, fitted a set of SPAX RSX coilovers. I alos got a new reg plate for it to match my RS's
Fast forward to earlier this year, I took it to a bodyshop to get a fw little bits touched up and ended up getting the whole car repainted, very pleased with the results!
Some pics
Hope you all likey
