Saturday's job - XR2 engine into MK3... any last minute advi
7 posts • Page 1 of 1
Got the XR2 parked in front of my 1.0 1990 MK3... stuck with driveshafts and wiring......
I stipped out everything from my 1.0, but one of the bolts from gearbox to engine slipped so i can't seperate them... What do i have to do to get the engine & gearbox out - in other words i have to remove the driveshaftrs but don't know how
the MK3 had carb, but electronic ignition. The XR2 has a distributor (keep me right here guys!)... so what will happen with wiring please?
Any last minute advice, or well wishes, greatly recieved!

not oo sure about the drive shafts mate but ive had a XR2 lump put in my Mk3 1.1hcs. the hcs was dizzy-less (so no coil etc..) but the XR2 engine uses a dizzy and coil set-up....
so i got a auto-electritian to do the wiring for the engine. only cost £50. he wired up the dizzy, coil, temp sender and rev counter.
i know nothing about `engine` electrics so if you are the same then dont even try and do it yourself if i was you.... Good Luck

Right to do this swap you first need the following
- MK3 CVH drivers side engine mount
- MK3 CVH Rad and all pipes
- MK3 CVH Distributer Coil and loom to coil
- Mk3 1.6s exhaust
The rest is straight forward, just use a crowbar to prise the drive shafts out the gearbox, undo the bolts between the shocks and hubs first!!! Drive shafts will be fine to use with a 1.6!!
worthwhile conversion mate!!

(unless I managed to cancel the post, in which case, d'oh!)
Take it out and put the new engine in with the gearbox attached.
Good luck - Al
