Simple tuning for Si's >>>

Postby xander7 on Sun Jul 07, 2002 3:45 pm

what can people suggest as good simple tuning mods for my 1.6 16v Si, i plan to do no headwork etc because the 1600 zetec is a Bic™ of an engine in this dept and is too restrictive.

obvious mods are: induction kit
s/steel exhaust
Rs1800 Throttle bodies

but what else is available for the Si to boost power ???

i know the Cat is another restrictive element on the car, and i don't really wanna remove this cos of MOTs (i can't be arsed to take it off and put it back on come MOT time  )

so any help would be appreciated as to what parts are available, i'd ideally like to have bout 100-105bhp.

cheers

the exhaust outlets on an Si 1600 head are tiny !!!

infact they are so small im sure fiesta boy would have problems fitting his you know wot into one !

u wont see any real power from a 1600 si without real modification im affraid !

It was built as an insurance friendly sporty sort of car and thats exactly wot it is :bonkers:

well there don't seem alot i can do is there chaps !!! i know 1600 zetec engine is a pain in the backside when it comes to tuning, i guess standard power is all i am gonna get really w/out spending mega bucks (which i ain't got !!)

i might whack an induction kit on, along with a decent s/steel back box, just to improve air flow and get a nice throaty roar, but i can't afford to go the cam, chip, headwork route ......i might as well get a cossie and tune that for the same money !!!! :x

oh well, the car will have to stay as it is then, in 3 years time i'll be getting either:

pug 206 Gti
puma 1.7

or insurance permitting:

nissan sunny Gti-r
honda prelude
nissan 200sx

i wouldn't mind NOS mate, i did actually consider it if i get around to building my mk3 van (in the new year i hope), but the missus has this funny idea i'll blow myself up with it, so i ain't allowed to have it

and if i had the choice, the missus would win every time

Hey,

I got on mine:

>Ramair induction kit
>decat pipe
>Full powerflow straight thru(ish) zorst

and I reckon I'm running between 100 - 110 brake (lies they cry ). Seriously though it has made a really big difference and more than eanything it is sooooooo smooth now, and also will rev so much higher without it sounding like the engine is about to blow up

I gotta get it to a rolling road actually to see what it is running.

Will the RS1800 head go straight on then?
