Slicks
Wheres the best place to get a decent pair- found a site called blackcircle.com who sell them about £65 each.
Done a search on here and it seems the Toyo R888's come out on top? Am i right in think these are road legal slicks?
Has anyone actually purchased proper racing slicks, ones that arent road legal or is there no such thing?
Does anyone know what Paul R ran on his red ZT with his white comps?

I've been offered free slicks on a few occasions now, but have had to turn them down for one very simple reason: Gearbox. I'd LOVE to see how mine would handle, let alone accelerate with full slicks on, but the diff wouldn't take it, and you're in the same situation I'm sorry to say! Wheelspin is the saviour of gearboxes, slicks are killers.

Yeah road legals with a Stage 1 and 200bhp would PROBABLY be ok...first thing I did when I had an almost unlimited number of free slicks available to me was to call CTS and check what I dreaded was true - and it was! ATB needed really, for slicks, but you need to talk to them, not me or FT.com users to find out what the 'box will take

ok, starting to think it mite not be worth, what with the hassle i had doing my last box change
Mite look into a quickshift, the rally design ones tho as their cheaper than the B&M. I swear that with my standard box i could shift so much better than with my cts box now

Argh not you too? I'm still suspicious and suspect tired synchromeshes were used...it's just clearly reluctant to change from gear to gear. It's fine at a standstill at idle, quick as anything through the gears, but just refuses to move quickly when on the move (hmm..e.g. 0-60 ) and is decidedly notchy.

Just rang them up...if you're having slow-shift problems too I think something needs addressing. Bernie's away in Ireland racing from now till early next week, so I'll call back to speak to him directly for some more input.

Don't fudge the quickshift with any cheapy item. Do it right and do it once and pay the money for the B&M it's still cheap as chips but is a proper bit of kit

well ive still got the same gear linkage in, i mean i havent tested the new box at all to be honest- the only time ive really pushed it was at FF 0-60 and it just seemed slower, not necessarily notchy or anything, just slow if that makes any sense to you
Oranco- the B&M ones are still expensive

My point was that full race slicks shock the gearbox with sharp torque spikes, track tyres and road legal slicks are a very different kettle of fish

thats a good website there, cheers for the link.
I think i would really wana try out some semi-slicks before going out and spending £140 on 2 front ones then money on some steelies or alloys for them tho.
Depends of i get my bonus or not.
Jim- you tried semi slicks to better your times yet?

Nope, I haven't, as none came in the correct size. All came in a size equivalent to a 50 profile, which is just too big for road use, so I'd only ever use them on the drag strip (which I do very infrequently!!) and at the hillclimb I was hoping to enter this year, but will probably enter next year. Doesn't justify the relatively huge cost compared to grippy-ish road tyres for me.

I don't consider the B&M kit expensive at all. Like so many things in life you get what you pay for. I've just put a B&M in my S2 and the Fiesta will be getting one as well on payday.

drag racing slicks even with a cts box you will end up snapping your driveshafts just too much grip. track day slicks without at the very lease a baffled sump engine will soon die after a few corners from oil stavation. i would love to run slicks but even on road tyres i keep on snapping driveshafts

Toyo R888 are suposed to be excellent
I run Yokohama Paradas on my S2 and rate them highly (can't comment on wet weather as I don't drive it in the wet). I beleive Yoko also do a road legal cut slick (like the R888). Slicks put a lot of stress and strain on steering, suspension and transmission components so you really do have to ask yourself if you really do want them.
Having been taken round Bedford in Porkies (Redline/Reyland) 600bhp 3 door Cossie I can say they do grip like buggery

You cant get trackday tyres in a 195/45/15
Toyo R888's will be a good improvement but after asking around a few people that have tested various trackday tyres they all report that the toyos go off to quick,Ive been told to stick to Dunlop and Yokohama.
My last trackday in the Fiesta i ran Yokohama A048R's all round (meduim compound on front and soft rears) and they gripped very well (still span the wheels like fook coming out the hairpin though lol) but after that day my driveshaft started to go west
