Smilies etc.

Postby RS Joe on Mon Aug 17, 2009 4:44 am

Probably going to sound like a dumbass but... When I'm writing/replying to a post and you have all the smilies at the side of the text box... If you know what I mean, Well when I click on one that I want to add I end up back on the thread and then I have to start all over again?? And my message is gone? If this is making any sense. What do I need to turn on/off - or what am I doing wrong?. Bit of a numpty I know, but please any help appreciated???

I've had this happen a few times in the past mate - I just got used to typing them manually as it drove me insane!

I've also had this a few times, I think its if you click outside of the post then click smiley, because when you click outside the flashing cursor jumps to the start of the post. Just make sure the cursor is at the end of the text before you click smiley. Or do as Chris does and use ":)"

Cheers lads, Only it doesn't happen sometimes, It happens EVERYTIME, and yes I agree chris.. Very annoying!
Jamie, I have tried it making sure the cursor is at end of text and been very careful to click directly on top of smilie... But it still does it. Like you say I'll just have to learn to type them in or do without. Cheers anyway Joe.

It's going to be your browser or something on your PC, otherwise it would happen to everyone.

Even if I click outside the post, when I click the smilie icon it still puts it at the end. I have had problems with Firefox in the past putting them at the start regardless of where the cursor is. Never had it exit the post completely though.

The whole lot uses Javascript so my guess would be you have something interfering with that. Does the same thing happen if you click on the B, i, Quote, etc, buttons above the new post box?

Are you using mobile broadband? Some of them use image compression and inject their own Javascript into the page to provide a function for loading the uncompressed images. I've had that screw things up before.

I would imagine it's the mobile broadband messing up the javascript then, wouldn't do it on the buttons above the text box becasue they're not images and wouldn't affect other buttons like quote, edit, post reply etc because they don't use JS.

Mobile ISP's use compression to reduce the amount of data you transfer but you can normally turn it off.

If you hover over images do you get a message along the lines of "SHIFT+R improves image quality CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page".

Unless you're on O2 or Vodafone no.

For O2 you just changed the username and password to "bypass", Vodafone IIRC there's an option in their Connect software (or there used to be).

Otherwise do a search of Google for your provider and "disable compression", "bypass compression" or something similar.

Just bear in mind it'll push your data usage up.

Try pressing SHIFT-R before writing your post, see if the smilie buttons work correctly.

Try updating your browser/s, and check any javascript settings, possibly try adding "fiestaturbo.com" to your trusted sites?

Hey Joe,
Depends what you're using - if, as I suspect, you're using Internet Explorer, it will either be in the Control Panel, then Internet Options, or from within internet explorer itself, the Tools menu, then Internet Options takes you to the same place.
If you're using Firefox, then its under "Tools" then Options.

You'd be looking to add fiestaturbo to your trusted sites first, that will let you know if any settings are up the wall :)
