Been thinking about this tonight, and since I smoke 20 a day, at a cost of about £150/£160 a month there must be other people on here who are dirty smokers too I'm suggesting we sign up on a list (like the ones recording attendance for meets) and next Monday start to stop smoking, cold turkey or using patches. This thread can be a little space on the forums to talk about it all during the next few weeks and stuff. We could even have some sort of way of keeping track maybe? So putting "2days" next to my name meaning I haven't had a fag for two days....

A bit of an idea I'm throwing forward at the moment but it would be an achievement if just one of us stopped smoking??

Anyway, gauging interest and opinions...

i used to have that opinion, but im a smoker now.

I never really smoke more than 10 a day, as i like to keep myself occupied as you tend to smoke more when bored.

I do not wish to stop smoking though for now, i enjoy it, i like getting outside at work as well and being away from my desk, plus there are some cool people i would never have met if i wasnt a smoker! Also an after meal ciggy is so satisfying

I agree with the stink of it etc isnt nice but if im going round my GF's ill smoke as little as possible (as much as it hurts) so she doesnt have to put up with it.

I think once im a bit older ill become a bit more responsible and stop but i couldnt care less about the health risks 'carpe diem'. Plenty of people regularly drink or binge, you could be hit by a bus tomorrow, you can die fo sudden death syndrome etc etc.

Did you use patches or just stopped? The kick up my ar5e is gonna be insurance I think!! £150 a month will pay for that and I won't be out of pocket!

I used patches and a nicorette inhalor to start with, I lasted a week and a day without having a fag, but I was driving myself mental and just couldnt stop thinking about em'

I went to the docs and theyve put me on some tablets called champix, they do something to the "nicotine receptors" in your brain and stop you wanting a fag, so far there working

Quick bit of maths: If you spend say £150 per month and you've been smoking for 5 years, that's £9000 you've spent that could buy you a 2006 Focus ST...
If that doesn't get people off the fags, what will?!

hiya gutys im loving your enthusiasm, i use to smoke about 10 per day from the age of about 12 up until i was 19 and i never really thought about stoping smoking as alot of my mats smoked and i couldnt be arsed with the hard work.lol but 1 nite i was ouot on the lash and the day after i was feeling a little ruff so i dint have a cig all that day and never touched one since.lol now the smell and even the thought of it makes me feel sick i stoped on the 26june 2007 and since then i have never felt better. its nice how you notice the little things like puttin a tshirt on that doesnt smell of smoke.lol its wierd but for the people who have stopped and read this will know what i mean i just hope the guys who are trying to stop really manage as you dont realise how much vetter you willl feel until you do good luck chaps

i smoked for about 20 years. quit what must be about 2.5-3 years ago now. best thing you could ever do for yourself (well at my age anyway )

I used to use patches, but after I used them for 50 days I was starting to run out of places to stick them...
