Was drinking this last night, had people saying its illegal but the (portsmouth) student union just pay the fines?

It was strongbow, carling and blackcurrant i think.

Anyone got any ideas? I just want to drink it other places but dont want to get a dodgey look/comment if i ask for it somewhere!

funny enough i happen to work behind a bar and we are strictly not allowed to serve it. we are allowed to serve it as half strongbow and half carling, and a little glass of blackcurrant cordial on the side. it's because it's mixing drinks, IMO its pointless, but it is 100% illegal in the place i work

Afaik, Snakebite (& black, if you're not drinking at Pompey Union) *isn't* illegal, although the competition get upset because (iirc) the Union is allowed to sell it (possibly because it's a private members' club?).

(Update: have read comment above about paying fines; I will ask the Dave the bars manager tomorrow and see what he says).

I was there last night, but spent most of it building C-form cables in the control room (uhhm, 'cos that's part of what I get paid to do; repairing cabling's not my idea of a night out... ).

Some pucs refuse to serve it saying it is illegal but just have a pint of lager and half a cider and black, drink have the pint and pour it in

so she went and got the landlord

the new barmade and i had never heard of it, but the landlord was not allowed to sell it, but he did do a pint of strong bow, then a half a carling and blackcurrent

Standard Uni poison tbh. It's not 'illegal' anywhere. Pubs/Bars are just told NOT to sell it afaik. Or deal with the consequences of projectile puke

So do I and it is for that exact reason.

If the bar were to premix drinks and the customer was to have an alergic reaction to it then they would have a case against the bar/pub and sue them.

Legally you should always place the bottle of tonic next to the gin in a glass and never pour the redbull in with the vodka. It is upto the customer how they mix their drinks and they take that upon themselves when they leave the bar.

Which is why you can still get snakebite and snakebite and black, just not premixed by the bar

ooooo I fudgekin love this drink All I drink down the pub now....It's not illegal, but some places refuse to serve it because it's seen as a loopy drink...we had a lengthly chat with the manager of his local and he doesn't give a toss about serving it!

if i drink vodka then beer and then wine (or not even in that order)

It's not technically an illegal drink - unless there is a button on the till which says "Snakebite".

It must be served as half-lager, and half-cider (i.e pay for two half-pints) - it should have a shot of Vodka in it too.

You can't put the vodka in the Pint, as it would mean you weren't serving 2x half-pints to their full measure.

So the legal way to sell a proper Snakebite is: half lager, half cider in a pint glass and a side-shot of Vodka. Then let the punter pour in the Vodka...

I worked at a student bar in Canterbury, and that's the law apparently...

The law thought that they were being smart with this one. The drink and drinking of is not illegal but it is illegal for a bar to sell or mix, so quite often if you ask for snakebite an black they'll give you all the bits seperatly an you ave to mix it! he knows his booze I found this out off a local club owner so i'm guessin its correct!

What gets me, is that, even though some places refuse to serve Snakebite on the grounds that its mixing drinks etc, where do you stand with cocktails? That's exactly the same, mixing different kinds of drinks...

Im not that bad, as a kid i could only drink spirts/mixers but then went off them and onto the pints. Just like this really along with vodka red bull as they do tripples near me for £3

They only trouble with Snakebite or any other drink with Blackcurrant in is the fact that when you pissed and you spill it or bring it back up it doesnt half stain.

I usually end up with Cider and Black lips, which makes it look like I'm wearing lipstick. My white trainers still have pink laces from last time I went out.

Aber Uni no longer sells Snakebite or C&B in 2 pint pitchers

But you can still get Deathstars in town, 1 Pint of Lager and 1 Pint of Cider!

To clear this up it is ILLEGAL to serve snakebite. When I started at Wetherspoon and had my induction we were told about it. Apparently it speeds up your heartrate and some bloke had a heatattack and died in some pub from it. Appart from that, its illegal to serve any drink which isn't brewery reccomended. IE a drink which isn't registerd to be sold, where as cocktails are. At spoons we aren't even allowed to sell someone a cup of coffee and a shot of bailies so they can't make an irish coffee as its not on our menu, let alone a half cider and black and half a lager with a pint glass.
