So ummm what is this black thing?

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby The Gilly on Wed Aug 01, 2001 2:42 pm

ummmmm (blush) I'm no mechanic right. Well, infact I don't know which way to turn a spanner infact.................but I'd like to know something.

In my 91 Fiesta RS Turbo there is this black cylinder type thing. It's connected to the K&N filter, the rocker cover and the idle control valve. Now, I don't know what it is but I'm sure I've seen shiny engine bays without it. I imagine it's something to do with the breather system which I want to check is working correctly. Please help me out as I'm alittle thick.P.S. Picture always help simple people like me.

AMAL VALVE! - Leave it alone and no matter how many people tell you to disconnect it DONT! n:smile:

Sunny.
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

(just incase) if u wanna know what the amal valve is it controls the amount of boost that ur car runs....so best to leave it as it is  its true that some people do take them off...but these motors have been set up properly without the aid of the amal valve

Huh? Sounds like the oil breather swirl pot to me! :???: :???:

Still, leave it alone, but Halfords sell new ones for around £12.99

As confirmed by several others, it's not an AMAL valve but the crankcase oil breather. And it's a sh*tty Ford design, which gets blocked very easily! A lot of people replace them with either Bailey or Spec-R parts, which do a much better job!

Just out of intrest, what would happen if this oil breather did get blocked, reduce overall power?

Fit a Bailey Cosworth one instead then.

Every design of crankcase breather Ford ever came up with was and still is do-do. Hence why they introduced the EGR system and carbon canisters.

Grrrr!

A UFO?

Probably the Zetec emissions control kit, i.e. oil breather/swirl pot system.

Maybe!

And remember kids, if it ain't broke... break it.
