So which air filter shall i fit or dont bother

Postby chrys on Tue Jun 18, 2002 1:31 am

My engine spec, 195 chip and beige inj, magnex, piper t2 cam, hybrid t25, pace intercooler, cossie fuel pump. So what next? Head?
I want more boost as this is really the only way to up the power but i think it would involve large expenses.

My fezzy runs about 18psi and about 200 bhp from a string of mods, I dont know what to do now to get more power except puting on an air filter instead of standard airbox. I also think the car would run better without the dump valve, and i know the sound would be fantastic when the turbo chirps. Any ideas of which aftermarket airfilter is the best.

It's not worth you running any more boost until you upgrade the bottom end.

You are not going to get much more power with an airfilter change....maybe 2-5bhp. But i highly recommend the K&N57i :)

what would you have done to the bottom end and how much would cost roughly? Is larger capacity the way to go? Ill definately need the unichip then.

If going over 195bhp you should get all steel bottom end, lower the compression with forged pistons.

A charge cooler will be needed and head work.

A custom mapped chip would be needed to.

Turning up the boost does NOT necessarily mean lots more power.

Fezzy Turbo :If going over 195bhp you should get all steel bottom end, lower the compression with forged pistons. £price?£1600+

A charge cooler will be needed and head work.£1400 fitted

A custom mapped chip £500+

Another £3500 at least, nightmare. Ill have to buy a different car i think.
Thing is its taken so long and too much££ just to get the car working like this. Ill need to strengthen the gearbox chasis and clutch as well, ap's organic clutch is very good, and i would recommend it to anyone running up to 200.
So how much roughly for an engine capable of about 250 bhp, keeping existing turbo, gearbox, management, injectors?

Good news. Just went to the rolling road at p+. The boost was turned down to 16 psi, the ignition was retarded by 2 and the fueling was adjusted properly due to cossy pump.
191 lb/foot torque
193 bhp at 5466 rpm

Aparentlly this is very good and should be reliable considering the modifications done. there is a bit of lag due to the spec of the hybrid t25, but apparently this is why I got such good figures.

Cheers greg for the advice on boost. Sometimes its too easy to close your eyes and turn up the boost.
