How about Halfords' HotWires silicone leads - they're yellow, 8mm or so thick, and at around 2.99 to 3.99 each, are great looking and available for all cars. You don't need to put anything better than standard on the car - you will be better off saving for a port and polish job and larger carburettor than fiddling with things which will make little or no practical difference to the performance - it's only a 1.3 after all.

Regarding the brakes, you'll need vented brakes to fit performance discs, unless anyone's seen 10mm thick performance discs. Tubby ones are the same diameter, but twice the thickness of solid discs and will not fit into the calipers. To upgrade, all vented Mk3 brakes are exactly the same (although the Tubby's discs may be larger, I'm not sure tho'). You'll need calipers, and discs - the conversion is a straight swap.

What have you already done to the car?

Wont help performance any but will give better feel on breaks to standard 1.1 stuff!!

To do the calipers all you have to do is get 1.6s/xr2i/frst calipers from a local scrappy (or if you have loadsa money the local ford dealer  )and the uprated/performance disks and pads.

Next is easy!!!!!!!

Unbolt the two bolts holding the caliper to the hub
Undo the break pipe at the caliper - after using a break pipe blocker clamp tool thingamywhatsit.
screw the new caliper onto break pipe
swap the disks over
put new pads in caliper
bolt caliper back onto hub

New breaks with less fade

Sorry to be a nugget mate - the leads are Champion LS28 for the HCS and LS26 for the CVH E-DIS - I think the only difference is in the CVH leads having big handles on them.

I don't think manufacturers were too worried about squeezing every last drop of performance out of their engines in that respect.

Sorry to ramble on a load of bullshi'ite at you.

Beeman, ask where it was found, then ask to see the transcripts from the police reports.

My mate had his Escort done in a similar way - was taken in broad daylight, and the cops saw it being driven "as though the driver may be drunk" - they chased it, lost it, caught up with it, and then I think they lost it again but recognised the driver (a known car thief) and visited his house where, voila, there it was and missing a hefty sound system.

When my mate (who's Dad's a copper) went to the station, one PC told him where they'd found it (outside his house), and then a couple of hours later another one read the radio controller's transcript to him, which said the car had been spotted outside "the house of <so and so> and could they investigate further?" - this is the house of the little spork, and now my mate knows (1) his address (2) his phone number and (3) his name. Max Power, Fast Car, Revs, Redline, Fast Ford and Performance Ford, possibly as well as GTi, Perf BMW, Perf Golf, and so on, are all being sent these datails either tomorrow or Weds, and hopefully as many people as possible will stitch this little spork up.

3 tonnes of topsoil, cash on delivery, Sir? Oooh, suits you sir! Little prick
