SPAX VSX OR G-MAX?

Postby Percy! on Thu Jun 16, 2005 8:51 pm

Nearly sorted which suspension setup to get, but have come down to 2 last options, sort of looking which are the best for the money.

G-max £200
Spax VSX £300

Some people have said SPAX are better but are they £100 better if that makes sense. As it is I would get 60mm drop on the g-max or 35mm on the spax.

Who has experience of either or both?

I knew you would say that, trying to see if many more have had bad experience with g-max.

Koni's would always be my first choice, set soft on a Fez they give a brilliant package when used with the right spring :Q

The right choice mate you will be pleased. You may find tha damping a little OTT but you should enjoy the car :aviator:

I have looked everywhere and spax only do the 30/40mm drop in the VSX kits, there is a 60mm kit in the PSX kits. but they are past what I need/can afford.

If it really bothers me I will get some 60mm springs later.

May brings the 17's back yet :oooh:

If you are finding the Spax too hard don't even think of changing to coilovers. Koni T/A's set soft with some good quality springs. It's about as good as it gets for a Fes used on the road.

Problem when they are hard though is it's hard to feel the edge of adhession. There is far mor to making a car handle than lowering and stiffening. Koni's set soft will still have a higher damping rate than the standard shocks. Cornering and handling are not the same thing.

You should be pretty much fine with your Spax kit though :Q

I have to replace the shocks as a spring broke and then killed the shock.

Cutting the springs is not the way forward in terms of performance or saftey.

So you reckon coilovers will be just as harsh. Why do people always bang on about how good they are then cause the harshness of my spax does my head in . You can feel every little bump and it literally rattles the dash if you hit a big bump.

I have been in a FRST with coilovers and it was too hard and jumpy. My FRST is using Spax 60mm PSX and i much prefer it as it has some give in it when cornering.
