speccing my turbo

Problem or technical question?

speccing my turbo

Postby rsturbonutter on Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:07 pm

I am changing my engine in the coming weeks from cvh turbo in my fiesta rs and putting in a zetec turbo lump. I am aiming for around 320-350bhp. I have je forged pistons ported and polished head with piper special profile camshafts and verniers with 550cc injectors. Now I don't want to max nothing out and want a reliable lump. It will be used occasionally this summer so don't want it to be just for track. I currently got a stage 3 T3 with .48 rear housing on my cvh and can't fault it but think it might be right on its limits on the zetec. Been looking on eBay and found this

Will this be massive overkill and be very laggy or is gt28 series more suited

I bought a t34 0.63 for mine, Ian said it would be around the 350 mark with the same injectors as yours

I got told by a mate of mine that I should be looking at gt series turbo as the old prehistoric t series turbo's are so unresponsive and laggy

I'm using the big cosworth t34 for mine, I can check the housing sizes at the weekend if need be, should run 350 bhp

A gt series would be a better option than a t series of course but it's also going to hit your pockets more.. With good mapping and the correct size housings you should be able to get a good boost curve and not too laggy but there's always room for improvement with more money put into it . I would say a t3 won't hit over 300bhp and others have said this to me too but I suppose could be wrong, but either way I wouldn't want it running on its limit...

if your going to spend good money on a turbo id go for a gt30..the gtx35 on ebay is lovely but a tad big for your wanted power output..also a t38 will be well up to the job..

Thanks jon that's the kind of answer I was looking for. I want a useable 300 horsepower car which isn't stressed in any way shape or form. I got around 1200 for my turbo and thats it for a while this has cost me a fortune so far
