My brake pedal seems to go down half way before the car actually stops, I've changed the master cylinder, front brake hoses, and 1 caliper (N/s).

My discs and pads are fine (still stock at the mo) the rear shoes are also fine, i've even changed both wheel cylinders! :o

I've had the brakes bleeded twice and there is still no difference what so ever !! :x , i cannot understand what it could be, in 1 week i've just spent 450quid on her (none of them are even mods) :cry: and she still doesnt wana knw!.

Here's the prob:

When i hit the brakes from just say 40mph, the car takes quite a while to stop (even my speedfight brakes wore better), the pedal doesnt even feel stiff.


Can anyone shine some light on this :idea:???? , am really confused and just keep getting s**t from ppl saying thats what fiesta's are about :x

have you tried running dot 5.1 brake fluid mate ive heard it helps pedal feel allot :D

Hi.

It sounds like air is in the system, are you sure theyve been bled right?....start on the wheel furthest away from the master cylinder & work your way back towards it, have someone in the car, someone open the bleed nipple on each brake (one at a time), the person in the car fully press the brake & hold it down, then the other person close the nipple, (must close the nipple before pedal is released)then the person in the car can release the pedal, do this at least 5 times on each wheel... - be carefull not to snap those nipples....lol

Jack the car up at both ends. Put a tray under each corner. Open all the nipples a bit and keep topping up the reservoir. Keep doing this for about 15-30 mins. Lock up all the nipples. Job done.

I found it the best way to sort out mine when I couldn't get rid of the spongeyness.

but if you do it that way as the fluid drips out the system will take air in wont it?

No cause gravity pushes the fluid from the tank through the system.

I cant see how that would work at all without taking air in.

If you have a bottle of water and turn it upside down and take the cap off gravity will push the water out of the bottle but the bottle will take air in as the water comes out so it must be the same with brakes

Yes but it's not a bottle!

It would be same analogy as a bottle with end cut off...........

Imagine a bottle as the tank and four lines from the bottom of the bottle, each with taps on the end. fill the bottle up and open the four taps. Gravity will force the water down the pipes and the air out. Lock the taps off and you will have primed the pipes. The only way air can get into the lines is if the bottle runs out of water.

Same principle.
