Squeeling brakes

Postby Fez4MJ on Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:36 pm

Hey, wasnt sure where to post this because its not exactly tuning as such :P

I have a Mk4 Fez zetec. I like it a lot and im slowly getting happier with it, getting it lowered next month hopefully :P

Anyway, when I go to brake, it sounds like im in a bus or something, the brakes squeak so badly! I just need dump valves to finish the effect :P lol
Any tips on stopping this from happening?

Also, not ALL of the time, but on and off, my back brakes knock. Its only the drivers side. When I put the brakes on hard, like when I go to bring the car to a stop, it sounds like someone taps the underneith of the car with a hammer :S

Service is due in June.. but any ideas before then?

Thanks

Have you checked the pads, discs, and shoes for wear? vibration could be warped discs? I would say get them looked at, not a good Idea to have Iffy brakes

Yeh, i've had the front brakes checked over anyway. Went out and got some new pads from Halfrauds before I had it checked and after I had it checked properly, the brakes already on there were found to be new pads anyway... so back to halfrauds I went :P

The back brakes im really not sure on tbh. They havent been checked over, but the knocking doesnt affect the braking power of the car, it can stop dead pretty well :P, but its just the knocking is a bit odd.

It could be lack of copper grease on the back of the pads. This is the main cause of the squeeking, although some people say that the grease isnt needed, but I do as do many others.

Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

You need some copper grease on the back/sides of the pads to stop them squealing in the carriers, the only exception is pads on the back that have anti-squeal rubber thing on them.
