ST150 brakes

Postby Paul R on Thu Nov 29, 2007 1:37 pm

From the bits and bobs I've been reading on here can I confirm that I've read right... ST150 brakes are the same/as good as calipers as the Esc Cos ones but need no spacing with the disc's and calipers?

Cheers

Not really as I'm not an expert on these brakes, however they are not the same as escort cosworth versions. I can't imagine they would be as good as cossie brakes on a fiesta, as they are smaller than the cossie brakes.

So you don't actually know then for deffinate, great help

Does anyone else actually have experience of the ST150 brake setup please?

Seeing as the ST150 uses the same size disc as the Escort Cosworth I would have though the caliper would be a simular size and simular performance? They can't be that bad as they don't upgrade the brake calipers in Fiesta Sporting Trophy :)

But I stand by my original statement that they are not the same and they wont be as good.

I fitted some back in 2004. I seem to recall they were 280mm or so, and bolted straight up. I never drove the car with them on, as I decided almost the instant I lifted up one caliper that I wanted to go the billet ally route with the calipers, and opted to import some Wilwoods. They weigh an absolute tonne! Because I only bolted them up to see how they looked, I never really got as far as ascertaining whether or not the rumours about them being a direct swap were true. They certainly fitted on, though I think I needed to drill out the stub axle caliper mounting bolt holes. It seems like a decade ago!

I own an ST150 and im a regular on fiestastoc.com and a lot of the members use mondeo st220 front calipers and focus st170 300mm front discs, and they claim better stopping power.

I fitted sierra cosworth calipers to my XR2i and Rs turbo and they require spacing away from the hub.

Ghost fitted Fiesta St150 brake calipers to his mk3.5 diesel and they were alot better than my set up. My cossie ones used to vibrate through the steering wheel and the bolts used to keep coming loose because of the spacers.

The ideal upgrade is to fit the st150 stuff with goodridge brake lines and fresh brake fluid. Good set of pads and discs also helps. :)

I imported the calipers I wanted from a Wilwood dealer in California, drilled/tapped them out to the required size, machined some CNC'd Ka caliper brackets down for the correct offset, and bolted them on around some discs sourced through Rally Design.

Cheers guys, how about the servo/mater cylinder upgrades? I seem to remember people doing this towards the end of my last Fiesta owner ship. Mk5 Escort or simular?
