stage 1,2,3 etc.. cylinder head & performance cam, worth
is uprating to a polished, ported and gas flowed head worth it performance and money wise? there are many differing opinions on here so its hard to gauge what the general concensus is. for example, is it worth spending over 500quid on a recondition head, (whether it be stage1,2 etc..) and a performance cam? i know the usual cries of 'just buy an RST' will come flooding in but i dont want to for many reasons, i want to have fun with what ive got hence the need for solutions! if you do think its a worthwhile investment who sells the best, and for what kind of price? all information and views welcomed!
thanks

Going for "Stages" on anything is going blind since Stage 1 can be different from tunner to tunner and the same for Stage 2, 3 and so on.
head work gets more gains on a NA engine. On a turbo engine, head work also unleashes some bhp but not that much.
You can have smoothed ports, blended throats, valve back cuts, 3 angle valve seat cuts (or even just a narrow one, but valve seat wear would be high), bigger valves, worked and balanced combustion chambers, etc. Also manifolds matched to ports. Alot can be done to an head, but what works best? No tunner agrees with each other.
A performance cam is a wise change. Std one was made while thinking on drivebility, economy, durability of the hardware and power throught all rev range. You can change it to one that will suit you more concerning the rev range and where the peak power is achived. A good example:
Piper 285T2 VS Kent CVH36.
Both cams give almost the same high peak power (piper one wins here, but for 1 or 2bhp), but the CVH36 gives you more torque down low. So what to choose?
If you are on a budget, go for performance cam only. It will give you better results as the only mod done.

modify the head then you will get improvements all through the rev range that where all your power comes from tunners have different states of tun for there stage heads i got my head from http://www.pumaracing.co.uk i have tryed cylinder heads from different companies and nothing even comes close to the power his heads produce i`ve got his 45mm valve head and double valve spring system read his site and find out info about ported heads
