Stage 3 too far for me perhaps?

Postby UHF on Wed Apr 17, 2002 12:14 pm

I was talking to my mechanic and he said with a stage 3 I would have to drive hard all the time as there is no power below like 4,000 rpm.

I notice that when I moved from the nova SR to the RS Turbo that you cannot just drive 1st then 2nd and dump it in 4th and let the revs drop to like 1500rpm and still be ok because the engine in the RS will labour.

My question is that if I get a Stage 3 fiesta engine with the Piperross Cam will I beable to drive the car normally, as in not shifting quick and constantly revving the engine to keep the revs up or will it drive happily at 2000rpm?

At the end of the day its a car which goes to work with me every day and I cant be driving hard and fast every morning and every night, would I be better off with getting a standard engine in the car and just chipping and charge cooling that.

Just when I thought I'd made a decision someone goes and spoils it all :(

BTW, does this site need high bandwidth hosting, I have a box in Telehouse which could easily host this site and make the forums faster!

UHF,
I have a stage 3 1.9 in my FRST and it's perfectly drivable at 2k although if you run it on a standard ecu you will have a huge flatspot!
best get it mapped (Ahmed has a good map so I'm told)

I'm going a slightly different rout and putting in a new ECU that alows ME to map it if I want and adjust fuelling etc. as much as I like.

It's also fuly lightened and balanced so I'm thinking about raising the rev limiter......

PS. do you work at Telehouse then?

what exactly do u mean to change to stage 3 ?

management lump head turbo ?

if u want a stage 3 turbo then you will need a T3 and that will not boost till 3500 - 4000 rpm so im told (snake)

other than that it should be a driveable car but it is designed to have more or less constant boost the T2 provides so its not quick without boost sage 3 management be it unichip bayjoo or any other mapable device will allmost certainly need baiges and u want it to b driveable but this will drink fuel.

For driving everyday a FRST is no the car to use really fuel conumption is crap Ade said using a T3 means turbo boost is higher up the rev range meaning town driving can be cheaper by driving off boost ! Maybe looking at a T3 conversion would be a first step with a chip then look at ure cooling and block/head work ?
