steering rack queries

ok basically my PAS steerin rack is completley snapped cos of my crash, spoke to my panalbeater mate and he that i need to sort out the steering so we can push the car (at the moment my front offside wheel flaps around) to get it on the jig. 2 buy a PAS steeg rack from ford is £500 so 4get that but hopefully ive got 1 sorted 4 much cheaper. can i put a manual steering rack on my car just so we can push my wreck around and get it onto a trailer (my mate can fit it 4 free). i dont plan to drive it with it on, and then when i comin to the end of my rebuild sort out the proper rack with the pump to :-?
