Stereo with Auxilery connection.

Stereo with Auxilery connection.
Im just wondering, how much might a head unit with a auxilery connection cost?
I bought a stereo > 3.5mm jack that i normally use to plug from my headphone socket on my laptop, to my stereo at the back (the red and white plugs).
My stereo has the same connectors at the back. I tried plugging the cable to it and then hooking it up to my phone, but pressing the 'source' button doesnt budge, so i guess it does not have a auxilery function.
ANyone know how cheap i could get a stereo that has one?

I'm trying to work out this same idea. I've found a site where people are working on it and may have found the solution but I haven't found if they have yet, a lot of poop to read through

Have a look and tell me if you can find anything on there, I'll be looking too. Your headunit is a Sony I guess?

K, just searched for a couple of hours finding more sites and info. The end outcome is that you can't just fool the stereo with out actually having something connected, whether it be a cd changer or a pc using a converted cable. So it looks like we'll have to pay some dollar before we can use our phones or mp3 players.
But did find a lot of adaptors people are producing, so at least we can, if we have the mahoney...

Cheapest thing I could find to do the job:
http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/shop/Autoleads-PC7-100-PC7100-Sony-Unilink-Adaptor_productJJ1571ZZcategoryJJ/iPOD/SONY/
And it'll be a better signal than the radio adaptor. Come on Christmas!!!

Erm i don't know really. It was a hand-me-down from my dads car. My stereo is kenwood(i think....cant remember). Has radio, and tape, and the option of connecting up a CD changer.
How about buying headunits of ebay? I'm not bothered what make it is, long as it has radio, CD player, and an AUX IN. Looking nice would also be a plus. For under £50. It could be used, im not bothered!
But i am thinking perhaps i should wait until after xmas? There's bound to be some people selling unwanted headunits that they got for xmas Has anyone here bought headunits off ebay?

this is what i have, a very old Pioneer KEH - P6800R
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PIONEER-KEH-P6800 ... dZViewItem
What are changer controls??? I can add the CD changer to it if i wanted(but my dad is using it in his car). and it comes with a remote too.
I will take a picture of the back of the stereo at one point, then maybe you guys could tell me if i can get a cable for it, or if i [ERRR] just get a used stereo or something

and the 6800R does have changer input but i cant remember 101% if it supports CD Text - your names from your ipod wont come through onto the screen if you use the IB 100II http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /4928.html
there are the cheaper alternative Autoleads PC7-101 http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /3037.html which allows you to plug any input device into the headunit that has a headphone output...obviously you cant control the ipod etc through the headunit but you will get sound input at a high level

It sounds like i want the latter of what you mentioned. It's not an ipod that i want to connect to it, it's my w800i fone (as i've got a 2GB stick in it with music). Im not bothered about not being able to read the track from the stereo. At least that way i will be able to control what i listen to in the car. How would that cable work though? It doesnt have a 3.5mm jack that would plug into the 3.5mm socket on my fone.
I wouldn't be able to come down this weekend, got 2 terrible assignments due for monday!!!

you will need a lead that goes from headphone jack to RCA...connect the hands free bit to your phone...disconnect the headphones...connect the 3.5mm > RCA lead into the phone and other end into the PC7 101 and away you go
