sticking a 2l in..?

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

right then, so if turboing my 1600 is out how do I go about dropping in a 2000? Which engine is most popular / easiest / cost effective? I'm thinking a boggo mondingo would be a cheap donor but then an RS2000 would be a better place to start, given it's more power, brakes... rear discs in particular.

I know I'm a newbie poster here but please don't think I'm having a laugh, I'm in two minds wether or not to get rid of the car altogether but theres just summat about it which makes me want to keep it...and make it go insanely fast!:grin:

If I do keep it, I'll be doing some form of go fasterness, tweaking and styling, I fancy some coilovers, dunno what sort tho? I need some new wheels and tyres, deffo only stopping on 15's tho and I need a new front end, after a wall incident! I'm gonna smooth the bonnet again  and I fancy one of those mcr front bumpers, with 4 fogs, had the lower lip before the bump!

erm, yeah, cheers dudes

Dead simple for your car. SInce u already have a zetec all u have to do is take the old engine out and put the new 1 in, add some better brakes and have it RR to setup the ECU again.

So do I presume then that the 2l will use the same engine mounts and plumbing? If so could I not just plug in the 2l ECU?

I've heard summat about swapping oil pumps and a few other bits? Will these just swap off my 1600 or do I need to get custom parts?

Cheers

Cheers for that:smile:

I think I'm gonna go for it!

Been out for a blast in it tonight, I can't get rid of it!!! It's hangin in bit's but even so, it's the most fun thing I've driven... ok it's not that fast but feck it handles well, it's everything I could ask for, the turn in, the feel.. everything:cool:

With the 2l and some tricked up suspension it'll be awesome:grin:

One other thing while I'm on, I want coilovers but can only seem to find AVO, after a bad experience with a mates pug I'm not that keen on using them, are there any alternatives? I'll use them if I have to though, I'm not messin with non adjustables again!

Bilsteins are by far and away the best shockers that money can buy. All the racers use them.
I only opted for AVO's cos they were cheaper...

Do bilstein do coilovers? Do you know where I might get some / a price?
What have the AVO's been like for you? As I said I had a lot of probs with them on a mates pug, the springs kept sagging, having said that the kit was fairly new back then, at least the festa has been around a while, you'd expect teething probs to have been sorted?

I have Bilstein Sprintline kit on mine - the damping is superb and the ride quality spot on - but the prings are just way too hard for the road, perfect for the track which is where i imagine they were tested.

Need more give on the road, the car just runs wide and dosent grip - but high speed conering and they are sweet as

Look for Bilstein on the web, you'll probably find some for the Mk3.

As a rough idea, you're probably looking at £250 per corner for 2.25" coilovers....

Adrian -
"Coilovers are basically shocks with perfectly matched springs which are 2.25" in internal diameter and therefore not as wide as standard springs. There are a number of benefits to this design. The first is that the damper body has a thread on it and the spring platform can be adjusted up and down this thread to provide adjustment in ride height."

The main benefit is that there are oodles of different springs available for 2.25" shockers. And the prices for new springs start from as little as £10 each.
So you can tweak and tune to your hearts content. And because you can adjust the spring platform, you can very easily adjust the cars ride height.

Heres an AVO 2.25" strut with a 300 lb spring on it.

I also rang the local breakers to ask if they had any 2l's, apparently the chap who knows what is in stock was out.... it must be really hard to look into a yard and see if there a mondeo in there :???: :???:

Spose I should see about gettin some cash aswell now

Expect to pay anything up £700 for a 2.0
Don't get a knacked & old Series 1 Zetec.

Go for a Series 2 Zetec-E or if you're feeling very adventurous, a Series 3 Zetec-R.
