Sub Wiring Help and Qu's

Postby GeForce Junky on Wed Sep 13, 2006 6:59 pm

**** New Question at bottom of thread ****

Ok, basically this is my first sub boot install. I got it nice and cheap which is what I wanted(£35 for sub, amp and box). This is what I have to work with, I don't want to spend any more except buying the odd wire and connectors:

Boschmann PCH-4680 Amp:

At the moment all I know about this amp is whats written on it: (can't find sod all on the internet!)
Boschmann PCH-4680
Bridgeable 4/3/2 Channel
600W (peak i guess, but doesn't say so)
PWM Regulated Power Supply

Sony 12" Xplod:

Model Num: XS-L121P5
Peak Power: 1200W
Rated Power: 350W
Impedance: 4 Ohmns
Frequency: 18 Hz - 2000Hz

My headunit is a Sony CDX-M800 Cd player.

My wonderful wiring diagram:

So, Question time (please refer to the images when answering the questions):

0. Is this Amp/Sub combination going to work? I don't know the amp rms as I assume the power stated is the peak?

1. Blue and Purple wires are phono wires going from sub outputs on headunit to CH1 and CH2 inputs on Amp? Any certain thickness of phono wire requirements?

2. Red wire goes from + battery terminal to +12v input of Amp. I've been told this should include a fuse (F on diagram). What current wire should I use? What current should this fuse be?

3. Black wire goes from pre-amp output from headunit to rem input of Amp. Again what current wire should I use?

4. Brown wire goes from ground output on Amp to car chassis. Again what current wire should I use?

5. Orange and green wire wires go from Amp to Sub. Which Amp connections do I use i.e. (CH1+ and CH1-) or (Ch1 + and Ch2 -). I assume the second one bridges it, therefore doubling the power? Should I do this for this amp/sub combination?

Thanks a lot for the help in advance.
I'm a ICE Noobie :(

BLACK CABLE FROM AMP TO EARTH

POWER CABLE THICK RED CABLE FROM BATT TO AMP MUST HAVE A FUSE INIT. E.G. MINES 80AMP

SPEAKER CABLE E.G. IF YOU USING IT FOR A SUB ULL HAVE 2 BRIDGE IT

BUY A WIRING KIT

RECOMMENDED

DONT USE HOUSE HOLD WIRING

I USED THAT WHEN I WAS 14 STARTED PLAYING WITH A SCRAP CAR ON MY DRIVE.

IT WILL ONLY COST YOU £20.

I BOUGHT A 2GAUGE WIRING KIT FROM HALFRAUDS £40.

IF UR ON A BUDGET USE CHEAP RCA IF U CAN AFFORD WHICH WILL MAKE A HELL OF A DIFFERENCE, IT WILL COST FOR 5 METERS £10 I HAD 6 RCAS.

Do amps need good air flow?

My plan was to put the amp under the front passenger seat, because I need it out the way as the sub needs to be removeable so I can put my bike in the boot. I can easily unplug the sub to remove it, but if I put the amp in the boot I have to unplug 5 wires as apposed to 2.

The only problem with putting the amp under the seat is the amp is fairly large (26x35x5cm) so it sticks out the back of the passenger seat and takes up the rear footwell.

My solution to this problem is the build a raised carpeted mdf floor in the rear passengers footwell, so they dont put their feet on the amp. But this will significantly restrict air flow to the amp as it will be pritty enclosed. Is this going to make the amp over heat or do they run nice and cool anyway?

New Question:

Does L.P.F and H.P.F do something to do with the crossover function on my amplifier? Fo it running a sub, do I want:
1. the L.P.F on and the H.P.F off
2. the H.P.F on and the L.P.F off

What max frequency should I set the amp to approximatly? (amp and sub shwn above)

i think it stands for HPF High pitch frequency and LPF Low pitch frequency

so i wud think if ur using it for a sub u turn the HPF off and turn on the LPF.

The gain i wud stay 3/4 of the way

turn ur headunit on full i wud stay on an alpine is 35 max i turn it up to 30, then turn the gain up slowly about 3/4 of the way. U need a scope for detection destorsion. but i didnt use on ive just put it up 3/4 a lil less on the safe side.

PPL can hear my bass i wud say about 1/2 mile away after having 3 in mabe 1 mile away. LOL
