Summer insurance probs! Help!

Ello, im looking to buy a car as a summer runabout for the summer hols while im not at uni. Got an XR3i on the cards!

Anyway, ive had a few XR3i EXTORTIONATE quotes for a 3 month policy, 1 being £590!!!!!!!!!! When i was quoted yearly at £750 from my current insurer.

Can i take out an annual insurance policy, pay it monthly and then cancel the policy say 3-6 months into it? This would definitely work out cheaper.

Help is appreciated :)
