superchargers

Postby scarlet_pimp_mobile on Fri Jul 02, 2004 12:47 pm

I have not the money or a good enough engine to use this kind of thing, however, I would like to ask if it has been or can be done to a fiesta?
They are apparently more affective than turbos, is this wrong? Or could a fiesta be fitted with both, a turbo and a superchrger like the old Lancia Delta rally cars? :o :bonkers:

Superchargers are driven directly off the engine via a belt, as opposed to using by-products, which means they use a significant amount of power to operate in the first place. Van Aaken have supercharged all sorts, I don't know of a Mk3, but they have worked one with a Zetec S with a measly power increase for huge money. Superchargers and turbochargers can be run in conjunction with one another with brilliant results (supercharger works to eliminate/reduce lag), and if one had the money, one could no doubt try it, though space may be a problem!

Screw you

Like he said, if you're working with small power, the amount of power the supercharger saps would make it pretty useless even bothering (eg Van Aaken's extremely expensive supercharged ZS conversion which gave something hilarious like 15bhp extra ).

Yes, but wasn't the Van aaken supercharger for the Zetec S designed to bolt straight on using standard internals. Bet the results would be wicked if they lowered the c/r and uprated the pistons to some nice forged items, then pushed up the boost and ran it all on a decent ECU mapped properly.
I think somewhere in America done a kit for the R variant of the Zetec with quite good gains.

You're talking alot of money to do all this but I bet it can be done and the results would be good :D

Autocraft SVE does it for Zetec-E (i.e. RS1800, Escort, Mondeo...) for £ 3.5k fitted and mapped, all inclusive.

http://www.autocraftsve.co.uk

Should see linear power gain of 50% for 1.8L and 2.0L.

No 500bhp is only if you go very very mad and have the money to buy a Ferrari and decided to stay with a Fiesta.

Realistically you should see about 190bhp from a 2.0 without any head work.

The 500bhp they quote is more than a little misleading. Your money buys you a short block from Sean Hyland in the US, which is basically just a 2.0 block with steel rods, forged pistons and a few other bits.

http://www.seanhylandfocus.com/

You don't need anything like Ferrari money (well maybe a scabby Mondial) to get 500. If you're only after a dragster and are not worried about low down driveability then very low comp (steel rods) with a T4, second hand cossie management, some big injectors and head work should do it. There's a bit more to it but should be do-able for less than £10k if you can self-build.

I wouldn't like to have to do any work on that Mk1, I thought my FRST was a bit tight on space.

I was referring to if you go through Autocraft SVE and use a supercharger to get 500bhp...
