Superchips
OK been having a bit of a recently dilemma. I got myself to be what I thought to be a rather groovy superchip. Anyway got it home and have eventually got around to playing with it.
As I'm sure a lot of know it was easy to fit and I expected instant results. They were not forthcoming. So I gave the Superchips company a ring to ask what the deal was. He thought I had not cleaned up the waxy s**t thats all over the ecu board. Took it all apart, got some more thinners on the case and it was still the same.
The car felt slightly more responsive but top end was down 26mph!!!
Superchips have been great and offered me a full refund but I'm still curious as many people have had this annodised blue bits of potato, how come mine just didn't work for me?
The car it was for was the Classic, with 1800 105hp, Si wiring loom and Mondeo 115hp BLOB ecu. Superchips guy programmed it at FF in front of me for a BLOB ecu??

I would say the problem comes down to the complete mismatch of components used in the conversion. If you'd had matching engine and ECU you would have almost certainly seen gains (as we have on an Escort GTi). Chipping an ECU designed for a different engine wouldn't give good results and I would expect the problems you describe.
Don't think you can blame SuperChips for this one I'm afraid

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Re: Superchips
Maybe it was one of those 'urban high performance' chips only for use in town centresollybee :The car felt slightly more responsive but top end was down 26mph!!!
On a more serious note, it's probably a faulty chip or as Superchips said, a dirty J3 connector.

I'm not blaming SC. The guy I've been speaking to has been really helpful and offered me the refund without my asking. Reason for the post was to see if anybody has had any negative experiences with them and if they had managed to sort it.
I completely stripped down the ecu and got some good thinners on there so no terminals were dirty, then promptly got done over by a 90hp Audi tdi

Maybe so, but have played with this car before and beaten it. Removed chip and can beat it again. Anyway thinking of edders option now, as they are not too much more. Was just amazed at the difference, in the wrong direction.

Sailorbob, it was you who correctly advised me that the BLOB ecu would work when I was doing the conversion.
What recommendations would you suggest? I've got my hands on a cheap set of 130 cams and throttle body. Just looking for a cheap maf now. Was thinking the MS would be a way getting around the RS18 ecu and then chipping it........

A 2nd hand RS1800 ecu and chip would probably be cheaper than MS.
If I could lay my hands on a RS1800 ecu I could see if it was possible to chip a different ecu with the RS1800 code so you do a RS1800 conversion without the ecu. I've run 2.0l Mondeo code on other some non 2.0l ecu's without a hitch. As long as the ecu hardware is the same it should work. Anyone got a spare RS1800 ecu lying around

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I couldn't run the RS18 ecu with an Si loom.
