Suspension mk3.5 and steering colomn
Hi all.
I have a mk3.5 1.1 and I attempted last night to fit up a set of gaz coilovers, appears these are for a mk3 as the front shock bore is smaller. What parts do I need to swap to fit these to my car? Is it just a matter of swapping the hub carriers? Will all the other parts fit ok to the earlier mk3 hubs?
I've read a little about shimming the shock and fitting. Seems a bit of a bodge unless someone has some proper shims made up?
The other issue I have is with the steering colomn cowling. I've fitted a xr2i steering wheel and ignition switch housing which all works fine but now the cowling doesn't fit and runs on the back of the steering wheel. Are mk3 ones different to mk3.5's?
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Pretty much all of the components you mentioned are slightly different sizes. The front shocks easiest option is the shim. Just get hold of the right thickness metal and use it as a sleeve.
The steering wheel issue is going to be most if not all of the column being changed.
