T3 or not to T3...

Postby MarkRS2K on Wed Feb 08, 2006 11:25 am

....that is the question?

Im making a nice 200bhp at 16psi on my t2 hybrid. Would i receive any increase in bhp or torque from a T3, would a hybrid T3 be much better as all my engine internals are standard.

Plus with the escort manifold and exhaust downpipe how much am i looking at for the conversion.

And would i need to have it tuned again?

Anyone in the local area got a T3'd frst that fancies taking me out for a spin in so i can get the feel of it, lag etc....

Thanks :)

T3 on my Fiesta was without doubt the best thing I did. The extra lag is barely noticable (providing you don't use a .48 housing) and it pulls hard and clean all the way through the revs without running out of puff like the T2.

I see no arguement to retain the T2 other than originality.

does the .48 housing come on the hybrid models? Would standard T3 be sufficient or not.

What was your spec and what boost were you running mate?

I really hate the T2, ruins the car no matter what variant it is!

The .48 housing is on satge 3 Hybrid T3's. TBH I still use a standard exhaust housing on my 150mph S2

so a standard T3 will be fine then? What bhp/torque gains will i see? what boost did you run when it was on your frst?

You won't see power and torque gains you will just have aturbo that can flow much larger volumes of air. Where in say 4th as the revs climb to 4500rpm the T2 starts to feel asthmatic the T3 will flow to keep it pulling all the way to the limiter.

Still have the T3 on the Fiesta. I couldn't make my mind up whether to have a Fiesta or Escort RS Turbo so I have one of each

There's a bit more to it than that. If your at a pub meet or show I'm at I would be more than willing to take you for a blat so you can see for yourself.

Spec of my Fiesta at present is:

Stage 2 T3 hybrid
-31 actuator
Beige injectors
195 Chip
K&N cone filter
Magnex exhaust
Oil breather
16psi

The head was also completely overhauled by Ford less than 10k miles ago. The previous owner cherished the car. :aviator:

i found the small exhaust housing on my old t3 helped make the car much more responsive than what i have now. it came on boost at around 3000 and kept on pulling. now got .48 housing and it now hits boost at a smidge over 4000 rpm (doh!) atleast i can launch it harder now (i have to  ) id change back if i could be bothered but now im used to it, its not really a issue :)

ask your buddy danny, i drove my car quite hard to fitp when he was in it.
our cars have almost the same power output but mine with a T3 with .48 housing and yours with the T2.
peak power from the T3 will be higher. youll get bit more lag but power will feel stronger once on boost.
T2 is all low down power and runs out of puff quicker.
i say stick with the T2 untill it breaks unless your greedy like most of us!
you wont benefit that much unless you go for a live map.
upto u :)

thought has crossed my mind as well mark, but like you i want to go out in a fiesta with t3,

mate too me out in his escort at 250 brake, and the boost pulls well all the way through.

but atm im happy with the hybrid t2, and doesnt seem to run out of puff up the rev range.

think that a t28 might be a comprimise?
