don't need the remove the shafts from the box, just take them out the hubs, remove the linkage, mark it first, then drop the box on the cradle

no cos your still have problems lining the input shaft up on the splins, best off dropping box and bolting it to engine while its off and bolt the lot back up in one.
little tip, drop the passange bottom arm bracket (held on with about 4 or 5 bolts) as this will give a little more room gearbox end when lifting in , and make its a tad easier with the extra room

Little update, i was a little busy today and finally got the 'box out and attached to the engine...
just to prove the bay is clean :|
apart from the cradle....need a new one
didn't get a chance to take a pic of the engine in the car as it was getting very dark by the time i had finished.
But its safe to say everything is bolted in, all mounts are bolted up and the 'box is in the right place
More pics tomorrow...

Good work. It's a great feeling to get the the main mechanics sorted isn't it.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

well the indicators come on with the headlights.....
also the glow plugs haven't got the wire bolted to it correctly yet and I haven't heard the starter motor turn....
this is why I say I've got to have a look at it tomorrow as it was getting dark as we were putting it all back together. I want to make sure everything is connected in the right places....
ive also got on wire that is need to find out where it goes on the new engine, ive got a picture so ill do a post in the Tech section later....it was connected via a spade on the old fuel pump...

That rings a verrrrrrry distant bell, buggered if I can remember what it goes to though, will have to flick through the few pics I have of it on my PC. Blue/black wire IIRC?
As for the headlights/indicators, check the ring connector on the driver's side inner wing (8mm bolt). Clean the connector and underside of the bolthead and make sure it's tight enough
