teamSPB Project Fiesta - box finished! 28-10-08

Postby bassboy on Fri Oct 10, 2008 2:10 am

Hey peeps, just giving you an insight as to what im building at the moment...nothing out the ordinary by far...just what the owner wants...

Basically a Fiesta mk4 that he is building up to show spec slowly slowly...

The car
Image

Image

9" wide rims on the back from memory
Image

The colour will be changed and alot more work to the exterior will be done once the install and engine conversion is complete...

The first job was to change the rear lights to what the owner wanted (please note not all the jobs are to my taste...im just fitting whats been given to me LOL!

Old lights out...
Image
was well manky under there! So, as i treat all cars like my own, i decided to clean it properly

Image

New back lights in...IMO i prefer the originals!
Image

Momo Team 280mm steering wheel...having 8" wide rims with NO power steering and a 280mm is just a sure way to a few swear words LOL!

Momo gear knob and hand brake lever were also fitted along with Momo pedals!

Car is FULL of goodies he wants me to fit
Image

Custom Door builds
Image

housing 2 sets of RE XXX components
Image

These builds were originally meant for Rainbow SLX265's but werent considered man enough...then the owner saw these for my vehicle and bought them off me lol

One mid has to be inverted due to metal being behing the card...the rainbow went in perfect! This is what you call close
Image
The seat has to be practically all the way back in order for door to shut!! Or the magnet hits the seat!

Tweeter builds in the making
Image

Test fit
Image

Image

Image

Image

Please note that all trim panels will be sent off to the trimmers when the interior gets done as he's not too sure what he wants done to it at the moment...so as a temp measure, we just sprayed it in satin black

awwww virgin doors lol
Image

outer skin done in 3 layers of deadening
Image

inner skin done with 2 layers of deadening
Image

car is stripped ready to be worked on
Image

this was the car yesterday
Image

Ive not taken pics of it currently but basically the only progress thats been made is the addition of alot more cables, processors and xovers, and the addition of yet more cabling LOL!

Ill try to get some more pics of it while we've been building up things like the cards, tweeter builds, all the sound deadening (EVERYTHING bar the floor is covered! around 27 sheets have been used up to this stage(between 2-4layers everywhere), with more arriving tomorrow so do the under rear seat area!

Tell me about it!...just the stereo install so far consists of

Pioneer 5900DVD with bluetooth
Alpine Freeview
Tru Tech Line driver
Massive Audio Bass Pro
2 channel amp for front end (2 x 500wrms @ 1ohm) cant remember the name of it for the love of god!
2 sets of RE XXX V2 components (front end)
2 sets of CDT CL 62 components (rear doors for when he's at shows)
Rainbow ipaul 2.400 amp
2 US Amps MD3ds
2 RE XXX 15 V4's
Stinger RCA's
Dynamat/Stinger/Second skinz sound deadening (40something sheets so far from memory...more went in today!)
2 x Oddyssey PC2150
Knu Konceptz Fleks power cabling
Knu Konceptz 12g speaker cabling
Stinger voltmeter

thats about it from the top of my head!

got more work done today...but mainly more cabling and routing...most of the cable runs are done now, just got to drill into the doors to get the speaker cables into the doors for the mids...hopefully that will be done tomorrow!

Touch wood, over the weekend, ill finish all the cabling side of things and get building the box and boot build etc!

Looks a good start. Loving the wheels and the rears will suit the car when finished :) Prob worth relocating the alarm module up behind the dash while you have it apart, very vunurable under the driving seat there and iirc not to thatcham standards

Cracked on with the car over the past 2 days...however not much in the form of pictures really as its just been sorting out the wiring and adding a bit more sound deadening etc...

had to sort the speaker cabling running into the doors, fronts required 2 sets of 12g speaker cables running into the doors while the rears required 2 sets of 12g and 2 sets of 16g...the rears were not a problem as there are no cables running into the rear doors so just loomed up the cabling together...

the fronts i didnt want to remove the doors to drill new holes so modified the existing grommits that were in the door to ensure no leaks etc

Image

the speaker pins were located in the plug
Image

so these were removed and step-drilled out to accept the cable
Image

The black MDF was painted black even though its going to be hidden under the carpet
Image

check the size of the tweeters compared to the Hybrid L1's lol!
Image

Front end is fully wired up now
Image

Rear seat area is now sound deadened (also note the fixing pads...all cables are cable tied down to ensure they wont move)
Image

and this is how the car currently stands
Image

Tomorrow ill hopefully finishing tidying all the cables and complete everything in order to start building the false floors and box etc next week!

everything is encased...i didnt do the alarm fit on this vehicle but i know what you mean about it not being thatcham standards...but its coming out soon to be replaced with the Concept 950 :)

problem with the mk4's is that there aint much space behind the dash unfortunately...but the dash will be coming out for the next alarm fit ;)

jay...it should be loud...a corsa i did with a similar spec managed a 149.8db before the cd started jumping LOL! but that was with a flat bed style box and the RE MX subs whereas this will be using the XXX subs for now...until we want to go even louder and will switch to Ascendant Audio ;)

Ram, yes they are Keskins...on a ford fitment...they are multistud so will fit any ford...if your interested in a set let me know as i can get them

quick update time...not had the chance to work on the car much unforunately due to being my birthday and taking a few days off to celebrate...

all the carpet is back in now and the processors and gizmo's have been wired up...so far gone is are: Pioneer BTB200, Massive Audio Bass Pro, Tru Tech Line driver, Alpine freeview tuner...

Image

Image

the speaker cable you can see there are for the CDT's that are going into the back doors when he wants to create some noise at shows etc...those will be mounted once the sub box is done

also the floor has been levelled off and false floor has been made...
Image

tomorrow the floor will come back out and the framework under it will be painted black as will the floor and then carpeted black to stop any potential noise from the wood...just need to work out the box volume now and where all the amps etc are going! should be fun LOL!

been selling the CDT's for a while and they are my number 1 set of components under £200 mark! i have the eurosports in my focus along with hybrid mid-basses and the front end is AWESOME!

rainbow ipaul is a good amp...i just dont sell it as i have found amps like the tru tech's and DLS to be better :)

quick update...got a fair bit more done to the car...

framework to get the floor level done and painted black (didnt want to use area below rear bench as he will remove the wall eventually and revert to standard)
Image

false floor has also been sprayed black but been carpeted to stop any potential squeeking between layers of wood (between floor and box)
Image
the slot you can see in the floor is for the cabling to come through for the amps, batteries, split charge etc...all cables will be hidden by the time the rear is done

just to give you an example of the size of the box
Image

Image
if my calculations are right, the box is approx 12-13cuft before displacement

tomorrow ill get the last 2 panels there made out of one peice...its done in 2 peices at the moment as a mock up...the wood will also be 36mm on sides and bottom, hopefully 54mm on top bottom and back...then touch wood, assemble the box and work on the front panel :D

Another update peeps...

Been working on the wall for the past 2 days and a few other bits and bobs so its getting there slowly!

The wall on the single layer stage...front and top panels were just placed there to mock up
Image

Image

how it looks from the front screen
Image

The back end of the box now looks like this
Image

Image

The 2x1 peices arent secured down at the moment, these will be done tomorrow as i ran out half way through as well as glue lol...

Tomorrow, the box should be practically complete...ill get onto glueing all the final bits in the morning...then have a well deserved break from the car for a few hours lol...once dried, ill get on the fiberglassing the inside completely! Then ill brace the box front to back and side to side...finish the port...put the back panels on and its done structually! LOL...sounds so simple LOL!

Image
Port ready to be lifted up into place

Image
Port in

Image
Fibreglass matting laid down...time to get high tomorrow and resin away!!

Another support for the port will be going in linking it to the floor and hopefully will be done tomorrow

With a bit of hope, tomorrow the box will be complete! Then its time to let it dry and assemble the back panels of the box and start working on the boot build!

Another update peeps...the box has now been carpeted and the amps have been layed out as well as batteries...all the wiring needs to be done yet as im waiting for some 0g crimp terminals to arrive...once they are here, they will be crimped and soldered on and hopefully ill power everything to life!

I got one sub in for a test fit to see what sort of seating position the driver and passenger will have...lets just say, they will be sitting with a straight back LOL!

a few pics

carpeted wall with one sub in
Image

Sub should load off the seat lol he knows now that he will have to have the seat slightly more forward when booming hard due to the travel of the subs
Image

Other XXX waiting to go in

And the rear of the box

Nearly there now!
