Temperature Gauge Headache

Postby Tweek on Sat Jun 28, 2014 3:11 pm

I'm at my wits end with this now, properly annoying. My temperature gauge doesn't work, it stays on the very bottom and occasionally will randomly climb up to the 'cold' block and then fall down again, the joke is I've tried everything and can't cure it!

Voltage reading across the sender appears to work, I've measured it from about 7v climbing slowly up to about 8.6v with the engine running. This was also with a new piece of wire direct from the pin on the back of the dials straight to the sender. When earthing this wire out straight, the gauge flies over the red, indicating the gauge appears to work!

I've tried 2 sets of dials, 2 senders, a whole new wire and from the dials to the sender and straight to the battery earth, including a new plug on the sender.

WTF is going on? :x

even thats got me stumped , have you tried an aftermarket dial to see if that works?

its done on resistance not voltage

is the sensor a 2 pin jobby under the thermostat housing? are the pins correct way round?

are you using mk3.5 clocks as the boards are slightly different.
