Temperature Rising - Advice pls...

Postby russellffrst on Sun Jun 08, 2014 7:16 pm

Hi all,

I wish someone could give an advice...

I have a problem with my fiesta rst. When driving normal with no traffic the temperature seems to stay good. As i am in traffic the temperature begin to rise slowly. I checked the fan if it is working and yes it is. I also flushed my system with cooling system cleaner and changed coolant. I noticed that when staying in traffic and press and release the gas pedal continously the temperature won't rise that much. Even when the temperature rise and then i drive with no traffic it goes down again.

Maximum temperature it reached was the temperature gauge at N and never rise more. The car is running without thermostat as today went to change it and found nothing.

I was going to attach a new thermostat with lower temperature, changed my radiator, will attach two smaller fans instead of one and ordered an airtech single pass intercooler for better air cooling as the one it have is after the radiator catching heat instead of cooling the air.

Hope i will solve this issue by the new parts. Any advice/ideas or help will be much appreciated.

Thanks -russellffrst

Mine is the same if you find the answer please do tell but I think you will be told if it does not go into the red it is normal as the cars run hot.

The cars do run hot, especially with a t3 slapped in front of the rad.

Mine used to hit the red in traffic, on a hot day, with a t2.

Wrapped the manifold?

No the exhaust isn't wrapped yet. Would be a helpful thing i think. When i saw the temperature gauge @ N i pulled aside and let it cool down. Thanks for your advice :)

You Need the thermostat in during the summer dewd.

The reason is the coolant is just circulating around getting hotter and hotter and hotter, with no means of cooling it.

The reason you require the thermostat is plain and simple, how is the water being stored in your radiator to cool using the fan if its just circulating around due to no thermostat.

they do run quite warm, but you gotta get that thermo in quick or your gonna overheat every time your sat in traffic.

Hi JasperJ,

First of all thanks for your reply. I attached a new thermostat cause as you said coolant is just circulating without cooling well and here in malta we're in summer and temperature gets high right now. Will see how the temperature runs as it will be ready because still waiting for some parts. Thanks again :)

I would replace the thermostat for start. Generaly they create problems when sticking. Also... if you run the engine without thermostat, what will happen is that it will take ages to get warm, not cold. Thermostat is not allowing the radiator water to get in the engine and cool it down, if the water doesn't get to 85-90 degrees. If it is stuck it will never connect the radiator with the engine. When you run it without a thermostat, the water always circulates through the radiator and because of this it will take longer for the engine to get warm. If it overheats without thermostat, then there is another problem, blocked radiator, insufficient fan airflow, detoriated water pump or an airlock somewhere...

from my experience this is all due to a blocked rad...taking the thermostat out can be a temporary fix but its not a good idea..either buy another rad or take yours out and poke a jet wash down the tube.. new rad is more reliable though
