The 6x9 tabboo

Postby niracka on Fri Jul 14, 2006 11:42 am

I have a set of pioneer 6x9's with 330w max and i think 80 watts rms. I'm thinking about buying an amp for them but it seems to be a bit of a tabboo to have 6x9's. Can someone please tell me why this is.
Running them with my sub and front component speakers they do sound real good but is it worth me just getting some more component speakers for the back and a good amp and scrapping the 6x9s. Wil this make the sound much better???

Unplug your 6x9's then sit inside and watch the cones move as the sub hits.. then you'll realise how useless they realy are..

But that would be the story with the speakers in the standard position which is in the parcel shelf supports either side. The only way you will get around this is by either boxing the speakers in from behind or doing rear door card builds.

6x9's themselves are not a bad speaker, it is how you use them

u will get a clearer more crystal sound with normal mids...6x9's i have always found just to create noise and good bass frequencies...other than that (or a system which has been correctly setup with a sub) they are just a waste....they were designed in order to create midbass...but with a decent set of speakers...they should produce enough midbass and bridge the gap between mid, high and low frequencies

The only problem is the mounting position in a MK3/4/5 fiesta is awfull,no matter what speakers you put in there they will always sound gash.

Its fine as it is now but i'm after getting a new car and i want to get the best sound possible out of my system. I'm thinking 4 x 100w amp and some decnt alpine or pioneer components front and rear??? Possiby get some rear pods made up or something

Why do you need rear speakers? You dont listen to band at a convert with your back to them...or do you :P
Just spend as much as you can on comps. tweets in the a-pillars and middbass or kickbuilds in the doors :Q

Who wants to make their cars acoustics the same as a concert hall?

It's all down to personal preference and my opinion is i like the car to be filled with sound,i install all types of products in all types of vehicle and it just sounds nasty when all the sound comes from the front and nought from the rear

couldnt agree more....its ALL about personal taste...however, the sound stageing is dragged too far back with rear speakers :( by any chance have you heard my setup in my turbo?

I didnt say I wanted it to sound like a concert hall. I was making the point that you listen to music infront not behind. Fair enough if your going for a surround sound system but, in my experience rear speakers arent necessary and are a waste of money, money better spent on front speakers, since you sit in the front. If the front speakers are good enough you wont even notice the rear speakers becuase the front ones will do an adequate job of surrounding you with music.

Also if you look at SQ competition cars 99.9% of them dont have rear speakers

but i want it to be real loud for the people in the back and the front. Plus i dont really care how much i'm paying out for component speakers cos they are pretty cheap for a decent set.
