The best way to install a Fiesta RS Turbo engine?

Postby Ice 159 on Sun Apr 28, 2013 8:56 am

Hi Guys,

My Fiesta RS Turbo engine is now nearing completion and ready for re-installation.

I was just wondering how would be the best way to go about this?!

Is it under and up of the Chassis or over and down?
I was just wondering what way people found the easiest....

Any help would be great and many thanks

I always fit and remove engines from the underneath as I find the brake servo and battery tray would get in the way massively . Wouldn't as much I suppose if you lifted in box and engine separate . But I always lift tr car up and stick the engine n box in from the underneath

That sounds cool.

Can I ask do you remove the Gearbox Crossmember and then bolt it to the Gearbox when it is out of the car?

Also what is the best way to slide the engine under the car and how do I get it in the air high enough to slide a whole engine under? I will add that I do have a crane available to me :)

Put it all togeteter engine box and cradle you dont have t tighten the 2 bolts on the rubber bushes ,Then get 2 jacks and a helper and lift the engine up on a jack and the box Dont put the jack on the cradle thats what youll be bolting up first , iv done a few myself and it is a bit tricky yourself but if youv got somebody with you its a doddle ,you just need to keep working it up on bricks
its easerir if u leave off the manys

Engine and box bolted together, gearbox cradle attatched. Sometimes easier to remove the passenger side lower arm and carrier but I'd only do this if you either intend on replacing it or you're really struggling.

Use a thick ratchet strap on the crane, tie it around the front crossmember or a chassis leg and use the crane to lift the car up high enough for the engine to fit under, put large axle stands underneath to keep it high enough.

Slide engine under, lower car back down to original axle stand height.

Lift engine up into position and bolt in :)

Edit: MikeyP just beat me to it, ditto what he said
