The optimum is about 35/40mm :)

Also would i be able to keep it on the standard shcokcs but only change the springs, or would this hinder the handling and be unreliable ?

You can do it but you may find the springs are too short for the shocks and they move about, that happened on my old car so i used zip ties to keep them in, was still an mot failure though apparently. Best idea is to just get a full suspension kit, not that expensive really.

When mine was about -60 and it was terrible. It was rock solid as though it was riding on the bump stops and in the wet it used to oversteer everywhere at really low speeds. As said, -35/40 is the way forward.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Any drop at all will have some degree of side effects.

Best drop is about 30mm as it doesn't throw the geometry miles out and still retains some suspension travel, which is essential on our naff roads.

Standard dampers with a 25-35mm drop will be fine and in fact works very well but the dampers must be in a very good state of repair or preferably brand new.
