Re: the new daily, ST170
Pastieman :Jay the re trim cost me £115
thats not tood bad i dont think, might well look into it in the future, i got a few other bits and bobs i wanna give some jay attention too first though.
mark, the ST170 doesnt share the same housing as a std black top basicly the only difference is mine has a sensor in the top and other dont, the ones that do are screwed in, mine is push fit with a clip, typical ford eh, could of made one housing and then used bungs to blank off the holes thats not used
which is what is done on my housing on the bottom, i got a bung in the bottom as the FRS uses the same housing as mine, but has a sensor in there....
i might get a housing from the scrappy and see if drilling out the hole would be good enough, the provisions for the clip etc are already there but the hole not formed, so its worth looking into, i might even have a plastic housing kicking about the workshop somewhere???
clark was kind enough to get me some bits in and send them to me today, tbh, it prob works out the same cost, maybe a little more for such small parts coming from clark, but ive delt with my local ford, and last time i was in there, i stood there for half hour while he fcuked about trying to find what i wanted, its just not worth the hassle of dealing with that sort of c0ck for the sake of a couple of wuid, i know clark will get me the right bits first time so its worth it for me so nice one clarky boy
got the seals coming for the thermostat housing, a touch up pen for the marks on the front bumper, and 2 plastic rivet clips to hold the plastic pipe on that goes across the front panel as there both broken.
at a later date, when i get one of these old pipes, i will be making one in metal to replace mine, as i know there a common thing to fail, and not so long ago a mate had the end cap pop off his, and unfortunatly for me, the old pipe got binned during his house move but if anyone does have one of these old pipes there going to bin, and your going to ford fair, can i have it please

Re: the new daily, ST170
iv always kinda fancied one of these as my winter runner, got an ST24 at the moment and it chews through fuel just as much as the fiesta does! thing is though, they are still out of my budget, the mondeo was only £470 with t&t, and wouldnt really be worth much more selling it on, so even though the st170's are cheap, they remain out of my range right now!

Re: the new daily, ST170
i thought about a mondeo, someone on the IOW had a st200 for sale for 1500, looked real nice in the pic's, but as you say with the st24, they drink fuel so decided against it.
what this ones like for fuel i dont know yet, not driven it enough to see, will see how many miles i get to the £30 i put in (when it touched the red where it was when i got it) and compair it to the old run around and my rs, although i expect it to be a lot better than the rs

anythings gotta be better than a good old rs lol talking about old rs's and petrol..
mine is sitting outside, very empty, because the fuelcap refused to move at the petrol station, to the extent that i was in danger of breaking the key out of the plastic..
i've contacted tompeters to see if he has any locks... wonder if someone would code it to my key..and who that person could be....

i wonder
you need to get the cap out first mate, wd40 inside the lock, with any luck that, and a lot of playing about will get it to unlock

Fingers crossed mate. It makes me wonder if people write these off as damaged housings without trying the seals first?

Re: the new daily, ST170
maybe, considering the shape and bulk of them you wouldnt think they would warp enough to become such a problem where a new one is needed, although cheapness is in mind when producing such parts so it doesnt surprise me that much if it does happen ofton.
the other thing is cracking, plastic dont like it being hot and cold all the time, but im hopeful its just the seals and will try them first.
as said though, if its the housing, then i gotta bite the bullet and sort it, as unfortunate as it may be if thats the case, i dont feel it is a big deal, and deffo not a good enough reason to walk away from a car which imo, was a good buy.
im sure if it wasnt for the fact it didnt have the little bits on it such as some dents, foggy head lights, need of 3 tyres, and more important, lack of service history, then the car would of been priced more towards the 2.5k mark for sure.
let hope i dont have to eat my words futher down the line

massive update fitted the 2 plastic clips that hold a water rail on today
oh, and sorted the rear wash pipe after i found all it done was pump water across the headlining and into the boot
currently have both boot trims on the heated airer drying out the lower edges of them, and the boot carpet which inst very wet thankfully, sat on top of a waldrobe drying the edges out.
why the fcuk people dont just sort the simple little problem of a popped off pipe out right away i dont know, fcuking pricks
still all sorted and working now, just could of done without that

Re: the new daily, ST170
picked up this up from a mate today for a fiver, well he near enough dropped it off (cheers adam)
as im fitting a double din head unit, i though save trimming mine up and maybe going to far, i need a donor one to do first.
its a bezel from another st170, so same trim colour, its a bit ropey where someone took a radio out in the past, but im not fussed, cos once ive got it right, ill do the same to mine, or i might even refurb this one and repaint it, we're see
just gotta find the double din fitting kit in the uk, other wise i gotta have a kit shipped from the states and god knows how long that will take to get here....
so much for a simple, head unit swap , if it wasnt for the fact ive got my new unit here, i would prob just go for a single din one, but ive tested it, and its good, so good infact i dont want a single din one, i want to keep this one
the modding of the focus has started , minor, but started....... dont tell the missis ]
EDIT***
following on about the fitting kit for the radio, well thats sorted now, just done a buy it now on a kit on us ebay.
buy it now $9.99 shipping, $14, so $24.99, the convertor i used on line converted this to about £16, if thats right or not i dunno, but ive done more searching this evening and found absolutly F*CK ALL in the uk so bit the bullet.
matey reckons 1-2 weeks delivery, hope its not much longer

Re: the new daily, ST170 updated 29/6
well i was bored after dinner, so thought i should at least have a look to see what i can do to get this head unit to fit.
so rooting through the shed, i got a old mk3 fiesta centre consol coin tray, cut it up, made 2 brackets, cut some foam and fitted the head unit in the bezel.
needed to cut a couple of tabs off and file just a tiny amount and i now have the head unit fitted.
with the brackets ive made, it lends it self to have a few bits trimmed back to allow the bezel to be be screwed back on, which is something the kit from the states wont allow, the foam insets i made up cover the rough bits.
as your also see, i smoothed off the roughness on the bezel also, im thinking now ill try the kit from the states when it arrives and see which is best, mine or theres, but im also thinking i might repaint this bezel rather than trim up my one, which has no damage what so ever.
havent fitted it in the car yet, will do that tomorrow, hopefully it will slide in and clip in without anything else requiring trimming back

cheers jony.
nope the escort is laid up over the workshop at the mo, undecided as to what to do with it, i dont think anyone would be willing to take it on as spares or repairsfor anything more than scrap price, which means i couldnt take anything off it to keep, on the other hand if i start breaking it, i then got to have whats left picked up meaning i get less money for whats left
or do i get dirt cheap parts and fix it up, get a mot on it and sell it on...., engine is bloody good, goes through emissions evey years without fault, hmm, ill have to make my mind up over next couple of weeks

Jay, you should be getting roughly US$1.5 to the £ atm so your maths works out fine, lol. As far as postage is concerned, when I've posted stuff home or had stuff sent to me, it can take up to 7-10 working days. From experience, it's generally quicker going from the States to the UK though.

Re: the new daily, ST170 updated 29/6
i didnt work it out mate, paypal converted it and showed it so i cant take the credit
i hope it doesnt take too long, but that said, i made my own kit up as shown above, and fitted it today, and i gotta say, its not a simple job even this way
well i fitted the unit today, had to make some find adjustments, such as change the screws that hold the brackets to the unit, i had to counter sink the plastic and use counter sunk screws, and tapper the leading edge of the bracket.
also had to trim a bit of the main dash behind the centre bezel, didnt really want to, but needs must, but once i fired the unit up for testing i knew it was well worth it!
im real impressed with the unit, to the point ive started thinking how i can fit on in the centre part of a mk3 fiesta (wouldnt want it in centre consol) prob wont happen though as i dont use the car enough to warrent a new £300 head unit
mic for the unit, for when you make or get a phone call

cheers jony.
speakers are fine, it really loud even on vol 15, i went higher and the speakers handle it just fine and sound great too, so i'll be leaving the speakers alone
dont even need a sub, i went through the different settings and theres one for max bass, even with that at vol 10 its loud enough and hadles the bass just fine, but i aint 17 no more, no need for big bass or massive installs.
i dont even have a sub fitted in the RS anymore! and havent done since it was put back on the road im clearly getting/am old now
