The Recaro Fiesta - the rebuild begins
Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
hb69 :Whens the eta for completion? You working on it daily Jay, or is it going to be like your red one?
, na wont be like my one mate, complete different story this time round, with my red one it started on parents drive, so i was restricted to when i could work on it due to weather, and then it was moved to the workshop (before workshop was sorted out) up so i was cramped and cold, plus at one point it got too much and i walked away for 6 months, wont happen with this one, thats why it sat ouside for so long before going in so i could get the workshop all sorted out as i knew things would/should move faster with the extra space, light etc, plus being painted in there, its not so like, doom and gloom so lifts the mood if you get what i mean.
as for ETA, not got one, and im not going to set one, in the past everytime i do, its always missed so its done when its done.
i will work on it as much as i can when i can, some times that could be 5 days a week, others might be a couple, but right now it will be about 5 days a week for a couple weeks or so just to get ahead with it
i was out there again yesterday, but the heater was playing up, basicly it was so cold in there the gas wouldnt flow from the bottle (2.3 degrees) so i didnt stay long as i was fcuking freezing, but some propane tomorrow/tuesday for the space heater

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
More work progress to report
im very impressed with the condition of the inner wheel arches even after the cutting for the bigger wheels. Ive seen some really rotten Rs turbos since being on this site and these following pics really put a smile on my face today
inner arch revealed by chopping the outter panel lip
Inner arch repair panel
pattern part had to be sourced
Inner arch trimmed and offered up
Cant believe the progress on this ... going a couple of weeks it was all in one piece !

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
be glad to finish this side off mate, that inner arch on the car has been trimed back a bit after them pic's, but forgot to get a pic of it for ya.
replacement inner arch still has to be final trimmed, those pics of it clamped on were for measuring and marking, and as there not xr2i/rs ones, they dont have the recess where the nut for skirt goes, so them bits have to stay on the car

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
cheers guys, dont look like much at the mo, but considering i only got the parcel from clark with the inner arches in (as well as scuttle and lower back panel) at 11.30am today its not to bad for what little time i spent on it, i just hope once this sides done things stop breaking
so far this car has claimed, 1 angle grinder, 1 spot weld cutter, 1 saw blade from the air saw, 1 thin ass cutting disc (ok i stood on it and it snapped the disc but it counts) jinxed the welder, as it needs a new liner, or maybe a new torch yet, and it must of eaten my automatic centre punch, as i cant find the fcuking thing anywhere

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
Clark said to me to ask you to take the rear drums off and give me exact meaurements of the bolt holes on beam/hub... Basically the pitch circle diameter of the holes even though its not technically in a cirle.
Clark also said he loves you, but that story is for another day.
Danny (talking in 3rd person now) says thanks
Fiiiiiiiiiiine, ill take my damn drums off and do it myself next week!

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
Just think, that time taking the rear drum off could have been valuble fag break time which you now dont have to waste
Yeah I got measurements on a template Rob made for his car, I expect they are spot on, but I will still whip my drums off and make my own template... Which I would have done regardless of getting measurements from someone anyway
Just need to buy some thick enough alloy flat bar or something similar and get them machined up Problem is most companies want you to buy in bulk and its pricey too, so I either need to find somewhere which has some decent size off cuts or sells to the nearest size I need. Im sure I could get some cut to spec, but the company I would use are currently updating their site and stocklist so I cant check lol

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
Yeah I had a look on there last night, might be getting some, just going to have a little look around first.. Im thinking around 10-15mm, but it all depends how much I want to bring mine out. Ford sell 12.5mm spacers, so if I can get say 15mm or even 20, I can always get it machined down to the desired thickness.
I dont know how much I want to bring out the wheels just yet, will do some measuring later and possibly some mock setups with some washers to get a rough idea of how I want it to look

20mm will be far too much
ive just removed 20mm spacers off the rear of the mk2.
The outer edge of tyre was catching the arch lips over bumps and when carrying passengers.
Maybe 12 or 15mm would be just enough without needing to mod arches
You will need longer bolts from fords which go through to the stub axels

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
Yeah I was set on 10mm before I even looked at the car to be honest. I will probably go 10 or 12... will have to go see when it stops raining, but with 10 its not too little or too much then, and as you said, will be a 20mm wider track, so should be plenty.
Out of interest, do either of you know the thread type, standard length and grade of the hub bolts?
I'm going to do a largish order on nuts, bolts and washers soon, and it would be handy if either of you knew what the standard is, just so I dont have to go play around taking one out... bascially im a lazy f**ker
I presume the grade would be 12.9. Even if its 10.9 standard, I'd upgrade to 12.9 for peace of mind purposes, but thinking about it, if ford use 10.9's they are just massive male genitals lol.
