ahh, took me a minute, but i think i get it

that concoction is to maintain the needed position of the soon to be new rear turret, this will ensure if can be welded in the exsact space

very nice

midn you, looking at the rust, its ver small compared to what ive seen, can you not get a small cutter in there and extradite it?

thats what its for fella.
although theres very little movment that can happen with the rear turret anyway, and im talking about 5mm here i wanna be sure its in the same place as the old one.
although even if it was say 3mm further back than normal, the shock set up will allow it, as the shock can swivel on the bottom bush and being back by 3mm with make no differance what so ever to the car or its handling, so as i said, this is very over engineered, but i have done it like this for the fact that if at any time more of the rear turret has to be replaced and not just the cup on the top that holds the shock, then i have a jig already made up for it, but for what im doing to clarks car, tis waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top   but its force of habit to over engineer things

as for the rust, yeah you could cut a square out and redo it, but you have 2 bits of metal of different thickenss sandwiched together, and although the rust has come through in that spot, theres noting to say it isnt creeping between the metal and in a year it might pop up next to the repair, so the way im doing it is to split the 2 bits of metal apart, replaced the shock mount one ( your see what i mean better when pics posted of it in progress) then cut out the top of the inner arch where its rusted and replace that with new metal, then replace the shock mount bit with the new bit.

if the old bit is fixable which im sure it will be, i will keep hold of it and fix it and keep hold of it, but it wont be refited to clarks as its quicker to replace it, and i need to get the back end all completed so i can move on, i dont wanna be spending time repairing a part when i got a good one say there to go right in.

 , for the cost of the ferry alone you just as well not bother as it would be cheaper to have it done over there

my RS is next to get some attention, once shes up and running, ill come back to clarks car, and now and then ill do a bit on the BMW i got, ill save doing the BMW clutch untill a nice day, as i gotta drop it out to ensure i get the right one  then find £150 for a new clutch kit :(

just a 318ti compact mate, nothing special, got it for a very good price as mate didnt have anywhere to store it when he moved, and its un drivable due to clutch release bearing seized, but im expecting a complete clutch kit is going to be needed, but i wont get into that car on this thread :D

right, update from me this time again, ive started on the rear turret.

i know i said i would do a guide, but right now, i dont think i'll bother as for most people, what im doing here would be out of there reach, and i dont mean to offened anyone when i say that, there are easier ways to change the top part depending how much you wanna cut off, and cos theres a easier way, i wont bother with a guide i dont think.

anyway, ill let the pics do the talking, its not finished, i didnt have my groove on today and it seems the day went and not a lot got done, plus with a painfull foot (gout) it was just one of them days.

anyway, i hope to get it finished this week, i dunno when as im fairly busy with the family this week so ill catch time on it when i can

as some of might know, other wont, you can plug a hole neatly in steel by using a brass backing plate, becuase you cannot weld steel to brass, so what happens is you weld the steel and the molten metal puddles ontop of the brass as well as fusing to the steel and once your finished you have a neat flat back and a bit on the front to grind off, worse case the back looks a bit untidy and you need to spot a weld on and gring it back to make it look neater, but its something i was shown many moons ago so if you didnt know about it, you do now

i done all the holes before i left today but didnt grind them all back yet, thats for next time.

thats it for now

that looks fudgekin awesome !

i had a vision of you cutting the whole turret out for some reason going by the lump you got from scrap yard.
That looks far more professional. That brass trick is cool !

much better than just cutting a hole and plating bits ontop :D

cheers guys.
it was going to be a bit more than this hence the amount i got from scrappy, but on closer inspection to clarks car it didnt need it, so done it this way, but even then, im having to do it a different way to what i planed, so this is like plan C  but it will be better for it i have to say
