some of the floor area is being taken back to bare metal as theres loads of little surface rust spots on one side so i'll buzz the whole lot off and start again

So your gonna flat the best and key/prime the rest and blend the fresh paint with original paint? or flat all the untouched aswell and whip over it all?

whole car will be resprayed mate, engine bay also, inside the boot will also be done as ive repaired the turret, and as the boot floor right down under the rear seats is all covered with dynomat stuff, that wont be painted, clark wants it left on, so ill paint around it.
the inner sills will be painted up, the inside of the bulk head will get a wipe over with thinners on some fine scotch brite or something and a quick once over, these parts might be hand painted though as its not seen and hand painting means a thicker coat, i'll sort that out with clark once ive welded the studs on for the heat shields.


as for the car though, most of its now panels anway and whats left doesnt seem to have any damage thats been filled from what ive seen so far, but ill find anything when it comes to flatting it down, but the whole car will be primed before paint.
might even get a new door or 2 as clarks thinking of having the locks back in, and the drivers door does have some odd outward dents in it, which i think is down to being dropped at some point in its lift on the lower lip causing the panel to bow slightly, i will stip the door at some point and see whats involved with repairing it, unless i find a mint door at the scrappy, then i wont bother, i'll just swap it, but thats at a later stage

cheers dude, i will be back on it soon, was hoping to of started on it again this year by now, but had other things to sort out, plus the fact its not long started warming up, so the temp in the workshop is good enough to work in.
warming it beforehand would of cost a small fortune in gas bottles hence why i didnt bother

i no how u feel there the garage i use ( not mine but run by my mate ) is freezing we use massive gas bottles and we have cars to paint roll on summer lol

well its that time again to get cracking on this.

i havent touched it in ages, due to things im not going to get onto on the forum, but i have some time on my side now, so im back on it.

im making a spit up for it at long last, i wasnt going to bother but as clark now wants heat shields along the bottom, and the fact i would have to make it higher to paint up the under side, i decided the spit will go ahead.

in true jay style, im over engineering the spit
clark got some rear hubs off of a mondeo i think ages ago, wheel bearings had gone, and its a complete hub change on it, but there not gone to the point i cant use them for this, so the hubs have been put into the spit and will form the main mounting part.

i also done the job i have been putting off for a while now, and thats welding the hole in the roof!
due to a rear mounted ariel that was fitted when clark got it, he wanted it removed, but who ever fitted it drilled a hole about 15mm diameter, mabe even 20mm, bit i cut a plate to fit in the hole and welded it in, no distortion and it left me enough to just give it a very light skim skimmed it before i left and will rough flat tomorrow, but its gunna be sill thin so its all good

yeah i kept putting it off as i was worried it would go pete tong, but i got to the point i thought fcuk it, just do it ill do what i can to stop it warping, but if it goes it goes and ill have to change the roof skin, simple, and it came out fine, dunno why i was worried

cracking spit jay, that locking pin looks elaborate

not really fella, way just a rod from something i stripped, i just welded a bead round one end then turned that bead flat so the spring had a sholder to act on, then just sized the end and put a dome on it.
it works as i wanted it too, so its all good, just gotta get the car on it now, and i gotta move it a foot foward so i can get the spit in round the back due to the feet on it , not so easy to move it forward a foot when ya on ya own and the shells on 4 axle stands

took the nipper to the workshop today, so didnt do anything on the car, well, i flatted the filler on the roof and primed it, hoovered the car out, then spent the rest of the time doing bits and bobs with the nipper, made up a dispenser for the masking paper, or the nipper did with my help then i dont a bit of maintenance on the compressor.

anyway, boring i know, but its still a pic

rattle can primed for protection, the whole roof will be gun primed at a later date

Ahh! I'm glad to see this is coming along again Have you got a deadline Jay, or do you just do it when you get the time?

i did have a dead line but thats long gone mainly due to other things, but now its a case of when i get time, clark is ok with this, but it will be moving along fairly quickly now i hope as i got a bit more time on my hands.

but yeah, i was hoping it would of been done a long time ago but other commitments ment i had to stop work on it although, even though ive had it for such a long time, when you add up the amount of days spent working on it, its only about a 5-6 weeks worth of work done, which in fairness it should of been further ahead then it is, but you know what its like, some days your busy all day but it seems hardly anything was done, then later on all the little bits come together.

some of the bits ive done ive not done before, so you tend to take ya time to make sure its done right, like the rear turret, and there have been a couple bits i wasnt happy with and have redone, plus, some days havent been full days as theres been other things ive had to do while im over there, but within the days worked on it, it inc's things like trips to the scrappy for bits, paint shop for materials, making the spit and the jig for the rear turret etc, so im happy with how far its come so far, but hopfully it will move a bit quicker, or at least seem to as the next bits to be done will be more visual things like scuttle, wings, front panel etc, that is, after ive finished with the floor

then its paint prep time, i wont lie, i dont like prep work, its very time consuming as it has to be done right, after all, as you know mark, the finished job is only as good as the prep work.

99% of the time im on my own in the workshop, could do with someone there helping as it would move alot faster, but im getting there, but i will inlist help for the prep to make that move faster

Tell me about it mate, good work takes a lot of time and prep. I think you're doing it the right way anyway and I'm sure you'll enjoy it and Clark will get a better result. I've tried to work to deadlines in the past and I ended up loosing the enjoyment of it all.

yeah i agree, i am enjoying doing it, but like any project, it gets to you at times but over all its fine, and cos there isnt a dead line as such i dont feel the need to rush, but clark has a dropped a fair few extras on me (havent you clark ) since i begain this which puts me out of sync a little as i had a plan of attack for the car, but extras are to be expected with a project so i just work them in or change the plan of attack.

one thing i dont enjoy so much are the jobs that you finish say just after half a day, and i think its too late to start something else, but do i really want to waste 4 hours...

anyways, i would like to get it finished over the next few months really, but i have time on my hands now, but in a months time that could of changed..?? who knows, ill just crack on as and when, then it starts all over again with the xr2 although i am now thinking i might not bother with the XR,but that is prob due to things that have been happening in my private life, but ill see how i feel when it comes to its turn

well today was the day she went on the spit, considering it had to be moved forward and squared up it went easier than i thought

ready to be cracked on with next week






the crates seen at the front is just extra support so the locking pin isnt taking all the force, not that its going anywhere anyway, but it also take up the play in the spit to make it stable for when im working on it.

first job, remove the fuel and brake lines, and hope they dont distort slightly making them a pig to go back on like they did on mine
