Re: The Recaro Fiesta - central locking demons

Postby knuckles on Mon Dec 28, 2009 7:14 pm

ever had issues with your mk3 central locking ?

Mine lately was only locking the drivers door leaving the passenger door open and by leaving the door unlocked the car would unlock the drivers side as they are linked together by a circuit.

Image

Door trims removed and unit unbolted with 3 screws on side of door.
Also unclip the 2 rods from the outer door handle and the locking key barrel.

Image
Image
Image

Central locking motor unscrews from the latch.

Image

Your need to Free off the little lever the motor moves up and down. I used wd40 and left it to soak. Then used general purpose grease on the moving parts of the latch where the cable joins and where the catch locks into.

Image
Image

Motors are no longer serviced and cost £64 each from fords so give this method a go before buying any replacement parts.
Fixed my problems. Locks nice and smooth now :)

I rebuilt the motors in one of my old cars as they were really slow, especially in the cold. If you open the case you'll see Ford used pretty standard motor (not powerful enough!) of the type you probbaly used at school in the electronics lab.

thats quite clever !
Is it pretty simple to overhall them then ? :)

i managed to source 2 brand new ford central locking motors for only £7 each
May strip down the old motors. Are they glued together though ?

my header tank has'nt taken long to discolour either, ordered a new one recently
i dont think it helps when you have existing rust in the rest of the coolant system
hopefully with my new block and head being acid dipped etc
i'm hoping mine will stay cleaner for longer this time,

clark i'm shocked at the choice of yellow that seems to have taken over lately
whats even more of a shock is, i think it rocks!!!

vin tags are applied for from your local ford dealer.
You need to fill out a form and have all your documents of the vehicle to hand to take copies of etc.
it costs around £45 to apply for one as well i believe.

Unlucky with the damage Clark, i know a few people that have been caught out with very minor slips on the ice/snow that has resulted in lot's of damage. My mate has boned the front of his Focus ST.

Glad to see your sorting and not breaking
