Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
right the pics from today
just want to point out im over the moon with the level of detail jay is going into to make sure that the repairs are done to perfection and for making sure its he is happy with it as i will be. He has spent alot of time and effort to make sure its done right 1st time
pics ......
The outer arch has been welded on, ground and has had a skim of chemical metal filler.
your see at the back of the arch on the rear quarter it hasnt been finished, but before, and after jay tac'ed it in he still wasnt happy with this part, so that area is being cut out and replaced.
the ford sill and the rear repair part of the sill have been fitted and welded in, ground up and again the join
ground up and again the join/weld lines have had a skim of chemical metal filler.
no filler has been rubbed down yet as you can see, this will be roughted down then normal body filler used to final finish (where needed) then stopper for any pin holes etc.
Around the door hinges there was the odd bit of surface rust, jay cleaned it all up and seam sealed round the hinge, something ford should of done when the car was built IMO
jay will also be getting some stuff over weekend/next week, some 2k primer, some diamond white (for inside of panels etc) and also with any luck, the bottom bit he needs to finish off the back end of the drivers rear quarter.
anyway, pics, these are not "completed" pics, just some randoms as jay was going.
Im looking forward to seeing more progress.
Just wish i lived down the road so i could pop in now and then to see my car again

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
glad ya happy with it so far clark, as i said on phone, that rear bit is a bit of a ball ache, cos the arch was a mk4/5 one, it didnt have the slight flat the mk3 has, so i tried to shape it best i could and it just dont cut it with me, and im not filling ti up with filler, so will hack it out and re-do as i explained

the bit boxed in red is what im chopping of a scrapper for yours and i'll trim it up to fit, and to also replace the bit on the rear quarter im not happy with

cheers.
would sooner of fitted a rear quarter but no matter, its gone on well.
i got a new mig torch coming next week to clark, wire still sticks on this one now and then and ive had enough of it, so will wait for that to arrive with the other tool before i do any more welding
danny, it more than likly will be raining.

Do you need a whole new torch or can you not just change the contact tip and gas shroud ect and put a new wire sheath in??

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
mark, its very annoying to say the least, let the line curve to much and it judders out and just makes a mess and dont weld nothing, then i have to fcuk about, get worked up, stop and have a fag then crack on again
gas shroud and tip are fine, the liner might be to blaim, and i know there only about £6, but i was going to get one, but as i was pulling it out, it got stiff and wouldnt move untill i laid the torch out straight then it slipped in and out fully with no problem, and ive fed wire through the liner (with the liner out) and curved it more than the torch has been curved and the wire doesnt jam at all, so im thinking theres a problem with the torch so decided not to bother wasteing £6 on a new liner, so got a new torch coming off ebay, mb15 euro fitting, 3 meters, comes with liner, shroud, and 3 tips all for £38 inc postage, and it looks a good one too, as i was lookign at what support the torch line has as it comes out the plug and into the torch and it looks to be nice and sturdy with the rubber bits (like a plug)
this is the one i got coming, it should be the same as the pic...

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
went up scrapy this morning to get the bit of panel i need, and a servo and master cylinder off a mondeo for clarks mk2.
wont be using the full size panel as ive cut off, it will be trimmed down to what i need.
rust free inside and out, im a little gutted it came off a blue car, but there was no red ones up there (cos there the best..) so i cant be ripping clark for a red car helping to save his white one
also robbed this while i was up there, amoung some other small bits that fell in my pocket
this is for me, not clarky boy

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
damn right jony, but i tell ya what, it cost me X amount today for these bits, and i though that was a bit over priced myself, so rest asured, it may of cost me (well clark) X amount this time, but next time im there, its gunna cost them more
proper pikey
dont look bad does it, i like the supports for the line at the torch, most others just had like a little spring, and some a short bit of rubber, this one wont allow it to bend to much.
that is a good thing, but i bet theres a time when i need a bit more bend than what it will allow
trench coat, no mate, the old faithful, shes full of pockets
taken from pikey thread
recently repaired due to ripage on clarks fcuking car, i had it professionally repaired by the best tailor in town so would be a shame not to use it

Shame about the bluie car thing but yea its nice to see you can still get rust free mk3 bits easily.
Yea looks like a nice quality bit of kit that Jay. should be nice to weld with a brand new one after using that f**cked one for so long.
Have to give you a big high five for the pikey action taken at your local scrappy gotta be done. I got a new gear knob for the focus and god knows how many pocketfulls of fuses and bulbs in my time lol.
