The Recaro Fiesta - the rebuild begins
Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
Finally got round to getting on the pc this weekend. Jay has been busy i see
After cutting off the part down the scrap yard, jay trimmed it to shape and joggled the edges and fitted it in, its welded, ground up and has had a skim of filler (chemical metal filler first) which will be roughted down then std body filler to finish.
Jay being the pikey that he is ran out of gas for the welder due to welding someones exhaust the other day, so in proper pikey style, he used a old Co2 extinguisher which was missings its nozzle and top handle, he made a new handle up quick so the G clamp would keep it on/open, the regulator fitted on fine, and away he went welding again.
He is f**cked if the car catches fire
i belive the next bit to be done will be sorting of the lower back panel (preping for fitting), but after the joints that have
been skimmed, have been sorted out, then its onto the passanger side

niracka :Jay,....come on I'm not that much of a baby
im being kind
it was pikey, but hey, the extinguisher was usless anyway so now its usful
i got some more gas on order now anyway, and i got plenty of extinguishers anyway so its all good, not that its gunna catch fire anyway
i wanna add, the lower back panel was offered up before this repair section was clamped in place, so the lower back panle will fit up just fine
just gotta get shot of that crappy back box now clark

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
yeah its a pain in the arse, and if you turn the power down to much you dont get good penetration, but its not been too bad, i had a few blow through on the inner arch as it was butt welded, and the wire feed kewpt jamming, well stuttering out, but with the new torch its been fine, touch wood

Yea The plants we use at my work are a pain in the arse too as when you turn the feed down it changed the amps and then alters itself again so your constantly fiddling with it to get a decent set up on it.

fair play jay. We got alrgoshield light heavy and uiniversal at work but just use universal for everything unless we get some real thick stuff to weld but usually just stick weld it then.

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
I will let the pictures do the talking !
I am amazed how good the drivers rear quarter has came out. Jay has told me it is near enough ready for painting now he has got the right shape back. I certainly give it the Thumbs up
Windscreen out !
This little horror was hiding under the rubber
Good job i got a new scuttle going on !
Jay nicely removed my fuel tank - was quite a nice surprise until the pikey told me he nicked the petrol for his escort
He then took the passenger side skirt off , then did some digging ...
marked up where he will cut ready for complete quarter panel. I dread to think how bad the passenger side rear inner panel will be like
More to come i suspect in the next few days.

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts
damn right i put the petrol in the escort, only cos i didnt have a container to put it in to keep for ya
rear quarter on drivers side is done for now, when 2k primer is in the gun i'll give the rear quarter a coat or 2, its high build too mate so will fill any little scratches etc
change of plan as i said on phone, ill get this rear quarter ready to go on then ill do the lower back panel, as this lower bit is ment to go over the sides, not behind as it should so i need to sort the ends to make it fit behind as it should
looking forward to getting this panel off though, but im not lookign forward to all them sport weld if i break another sport weld cutter bit, your gunna have to buy me some more
