Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts updated 15/4
got some time today so went over to get the turret finished.
the turret is fully welded in now, the top plate is on and welded to the turret so welding etc is all done on it.
just as well as gas is gunna run out, and i mean, few more plug welds and it would of been empty so now i gotta find more again
anyway, pics will do the talking, the last one is purly just primed for protection untill i get back out there, its just a ground finish under the primer, and i had to rush priming as i had to leave sharpish as i forgot the missis was going out so it was just banged on there, and its run like fcuk , but as i say, its only to cover it untill im next there.
and yes the under side was primed also.
wasnt too impressed with the ground finish, i had to get a couple new grinding disc and as anyone that grinds knows, a brand new disc is harsh so i ground the fcuk out of a old bit of metal to start the new disc off, but to me it just dont grind very well, prob cos i got cheap disc, but still, its done now, with the only problem being a little bit of spring in the inner arch panel, but i'll shrink the metal a bit to take that out at a later date

i've got nothing to update on mine, the rs is still in the garage with no cam, although im pricing parts and with be gathering over the next months, then its just finding £350 for a cam kit.
the xr2 sits on the jig in the workshop again untouched, although i did get some bonnet hinges from a ford galaxy a month or so back to try out when i get round to it
hows that! 2 upodates in one hit,

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restore starts updated 18/4
right update time, while out there today i done a bit more, nothing major, had compressor problems so had to look into that, and dig out more CO2 (another fire extinguisher) so welded up 2 of the old cage holes, then sorted the turret (cage holes on N/S still needs doing)
the turret has had a light skim of filler over it to smooth it off from the un-even finish from grinding the welds, it was primed, sealed on the top, as well as fully seal on the under side.
the under side dont look pretty, but its not ment to, it protect the bits that needs protecting so it doesnt matter what it looks like, and by the time its seen a bit more sealer and a stone chipping (at later date) it will be more tidy

i dont wanna do any more turrets for a while na it wasn't a bad job to do in the end, although there was another way i could of done it, like cut the whole top off in one and fit it, but you dunno what rust is between the 2 bits of metal then, and you could be cutting out one problem and replacing it with another....
im 95% happy with it though, i would be happier if i could of done it how i wanted to, i.e (apart from the seam weld), i would like to of used the spot welder, but i just dont have the different arms for the sport welder to of been able to of done it like that, i could maybe of made something up as i have copper and brass bar, but it would of taken time and for what little difference it would of made it wasn't worth the time to try and make them up as i would of had to make a couple different types.
also forgot to say, i've advised clark to have a strip of anti drum up the face of the turret as theres still a minor amount of spring in the metal which i cant get out, well prob could if i fcuked about hot spoting and cooling it but its not much so wasn't worth doing, and the anti drum will be put on before its all primed up, and i'll put a bit on the n/s also so it doesnt look out of place, not that a complete boot floor covered in the crap dont look out of place
anyway, its done now and im pleased about that, ill get the other 2 holes done when im next there, even if thats all i do if im doing other things, then the inside of the boot etc will be primed up the same time as the rear quarters
