Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 2/10

clark mate, glad ya like it dude.
no probs trying out a bit of painting there wont be anything on the car ready for that when you come over, but we can find something, maybe clean up and prime then paint the underside of the bonnet or something??
but your have to buy your self a disposible suit (which ill keep when ya done with it as i ripped the arse out my good one ) and your also need a decent face mask like the ones ive shown you in the past, you dont wanna be breathing this crap in thats for sure

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 5/10
todays update, not been having a good day for other reasons, and the fact i had to paint didnt cheer me up one bit, but it needed doing and i couldnt put it off, so went over to the workshop.
found a few tiny thin bits in the engine bay, basicly where i couldnt get the gun in fully to do them (under the scuttle on the bulk head), so preped the ares up, cracked out the touch up gun and got in there nice and touched them in so its all good now.
prepped the bonnet hinges, primed them, and painted them.
same with the front panel, i cleaned up the brazed part, etch primed it, then preped the rest of the inside of it up and primed it.
by the time i had cleaned the gun out it was ready for a light nib off on both the hinges and front panel so continued to top coat.
used the new mini spray gun for both primer and top coat, very impressed with it i gotta say considering the price, although i had to strip it right down to fully clean it after priming
the only other thing i done was have a good sort out and clean up, putting all the bits from the car in it, and sheeting it over, put the passanger door back as its needed for putting the front end on.
shifted out the heaters im no longer using as there all out of gas, and i cant use gas ones when painting anyway, and took the spits apart, so yeah, thats it..
cant remember if i said in another update, but ive decided to get another spray gun, one for priming, one for painting, this paint is mixed different to anything ive used before, and its such a pain setting the gun up for it, that i just cant be fcuked to keep changing it round when i prime and then paint, as i plan to have the car primed and painted before i move onto other panels such as doors, bonnet and boot.
the egal eyed amoung you will notice some areas that look like ive missed it wheile painting (on the front panel) these are the areas that are being sanded back to bare metal as there the mounting points, so there be sanded back and primed with weld through primer, as these ares will be welded with the spot welder.
the area around the bumper mounting hole is also spot welded, but i just primed and painted over it as normal, and ill buzz off a couple of round spots for the spot welding on them points.
hopefully monday/tuesday when ever i decide to go over will see the front end on, but i wont be rushing that, ill be fitting pretty much everything up to make sure everthing is as it should be, bonnet, head lights, bumper, front arches etc.
once thats all on, thats marks the end of the work i enjoy, and the start of painting

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 5/10
not much of a update, as i havent touched the car in nearly a week (8th was last time i was there), but i started fitting up the front end, but got a call from the missis and had to leave early before finishing and havent had a chance to get back on it.
so just [ERRR] i got it, heres a couple pics of how it stands, i will be back on it later next week, and i will fit the whole front end on to be sure im happy with its alignment, bumper, body kit front arches etc
oh, and clark is on the isle of wight at the mo and we have been to the workshop so he can have a ganda about it
thats it, wasnt gunna bother with these pics as i didnt get much done in the short time i was there, but sod it, im board at home right now
prob have a update thursday next week

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 20/10
small update today.
was out the workshop the other day and it was a bad day, it was the sort of day that i wasnt really in the mood, and nothing wanted to go right, you know the sort of day i mean im sure.
the passnager wing just didnt wanna fit right, and for a gen wing i was a bit disapointed to its fit, and being there on my own, i couldnt hold the wing in place, open the bonnet, prop the bonnet, and clamp the wing in place on my own, so down tools and fcuked off.
so today, i went over, and got my dad to come and give me a hand, and got the passanger wing fitted up, and adjusted to be right
i had to adjust both wings and the bonnet for a good line up to get the gaps right, and i trial fitted the bumper also to make sure on the fit, the gaps under the headlights look a bit big to me, but it might be right, been a while since ive really taken a lot of notice of a std car tbh, but i will trial fit it again at a later date before paint and see what i can do to close that gap a little bit, but ill also make sure i got a matching pair of headlights when i do this.
some of the day was spent as i had to do some mods to the spot welder too, as the arms wouldnt allow it to get right in under the wing to spot weld it, but as clark knows, the workshop is full of all sorts of goodies, and i dug out some sport welder ends which were ment for a full size spot welder you would find in a sheet metal shop and a bit of bronze bar was dug out, and while my dad machine it up in the lathe to fit the welder, i modded the end to suite the new arm he was making.
also made a new top electrode from a bit of 10mm copper bar we had, so by the end of it, we had a set of arms that could get in and do the job nicely
so all the front end is spot welded in apart from where the bottom part of the wings meet the front panel, as the spot welder cant get in there so left these clamped for now until i next go over and ill prob have to mod the spot welder again, or i might just mig weld the joints, ill see when im there, but over all, not much work on the car today, but the time spent (which was a fair bit) getting the spot welder sorted was worth it imo.
few random pics i took from today, not that its anything major

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 26/10
small update.
not had much time, and theres been some odd fiddley bits to finish off which ive done.
the lower part of front panel is now fixed, as is the bottom enges of the wings.
lower front valance and bottom of wings have now been stone chipped.
your notice i masked off the joining line for the wing and front panel, this is because i didnt want the risk of reaction from the stone chip and seam sealer, those that have followed will know i had a issue on part of the back end like that, so once the front end is primed up, ill sema seal then.
the spot weld marks under the wingd and wrounf the front panel have been preped, sealed, and primed and there waiting for paint.
trial fitted the kit today, drilled the holes for the rear arches and adjusted as needed to get the rear arches fitting 100%, and im happy with the fitment too.
once the doors are off, the kit will be trial fitted again and all holes for the side skirt marked and drilled, i ran out of time today so couldnt do it, plus where i drilled holes for the rear arches, i needed to remove them to apply rattle can stone chip around the holes (and i just gave the whole inner arch lip another blast for luck) so its no great loss that i took them off.
other than that, i went round the car looking for small dings etc, found a few on the new panels so preped and gave a light skim where needed.
short and sweet update, more when something interesting happens

cheers gadget.
clark you should of tried harder and found some band new rear archs, and side skirts to match
done a few odds and sods today, nothing worthy of pictures.
finally got the holes drilled for the rest of the kit, and the square holes in the rear arches put in.
realined the bonent hinges and fitted the band new bolts, then removed the doors and bonnet.
painted up most of the welded and seam sealed bits behind the front panel, and painted the insides of the front turrets (very top parts)
was doing some other things while in the workshop not related to clarks car, one being refurbing a old rusty tool box which ended up silver on the inside and blue on the outside and loading it up with the tools needed to do a clutch on mates car tomorrow.
not looking forward to being laid out on a gravel drive in the cold, and hopefully, not wet (ive spoilt myself having the workshop ) but cold and wet..... that just brings back bad memories, funny enough, of clarks car when i took the engine out to work on then refitting it on my parents drive many years ago , shouldnt laugh, it was fudgekin horried that day and night doing it

Re: The Recaro Fiesta - restoration update 26/10
cheers guys.
dany, both rear arches are red, as will the spoiler, so its got plenty on there and clark loves it
its come apart again now though, no doors, bonnet or boot, although the new boot lid will be stipped and trial fitted for hinge location before i start priming.
oh, and the reason for that is theres 2 brand new complete hinges to go on the car
paul, it will be std looking when finished
