None as yet, just waiting for ambient temps to rise so I can get a decent temp in the workshop to paint mate.

Don't wanna push my luck painting when its chilly and dampness in the air.

Gotta say I'm a bit pissed off with the weather lol should be a bit warmer than it is, can't believe there's snow in April! LOL

Yours says ford espania, Mine says "ford motor company" BUT all other numbers tie in with an rs, so im guessing mine is uk built and she deffo a pre 1991 build, so it may be a different code, apparently their are 14 shades, B1 is the year 1981 shade, the 1st diamond white.............. :-?

Dude there ain't none, I'm disappointed to say I have to put the recap fiesta on the back burner due to the cold weather we had at the start of the year and now its warming up I got something else taking my time up, but there will be updates come
June as I would of finished, or at least be at a stage with the other thing where I can juggle the 2 together, as clarks car is mainly down to priming and painting, the day after I do some priming or painting I can work on the other thing for a day to allow extra drying time etc then go back to it, that's the plan anyway lol

I am disappointed though wanted to be back on the ages ago, I expected march to be warmer than it was, but wasn't gunna try painting in a coldish workshop just for the sake of getting ahead, as there would of been dampness in the air, so decided to wait it out

been a long while since i updated this thread, so here is an update.
havent spunt much time on this, this year, started back on it mid june, and done bits here and there.
as anyone whos painted before will know, a lot of time goes into prep work, so theres been more time spent on it that the current state of it shows, and theres been a few issues along the way with parts that i painted having to be redone as ive not been happy with them, and due to the paint really needing a oven to bake on, once painted i tend to leave it a week or more before doing other bits.

anyhow, here the update in pic form, the extractor seen at the end is one i made up as i didnt feel paying £22 a time to hire one was worth it, so knocked one up one evening

this is as it stands with the pics i have on my pc at mo, little bits are still being done now until end of month as temps in workshop even with the heaters on are only just about ok for painting, by end of month the heaters wont give me enough heat i dont feel
anyhow thats it for today, few more updates this monht to come as and when

brilliant work there jay for a make shift spray booth. gotta hate those fecking flies when they get in paint! but don't worry flat and polish will sort it.

and when you say the paint needs properly baking, what hardener and thinners are you using in the clear coat?? because you can source and infra red lamp or two, you can use 2k fast hardener and 2k fast thinners and the combo of these with the clear coat will get the paint dry over night. or even a drop of rocket hardener will do it just nicely!

Postby jayrs on Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:22 pm

Cheers mate, the fly wasn't an issue tbh, only the legs were stuck and it came off easy as pie.

No clear coat its solid white fella, using fast thinners and the hardner Clark got which I think is fast too.
Its touch dry within hours with the heat I got in there, but It is still soft for a couple days.

Small bits I've painted and out in front if the heaters have dried hard in next to no time so I think it could do with a oven really.

But I'm getting on ok with it, I will say, as I've said to Clark, I've not had paint that is like this before, all 2k solid I've used before dryed quicker and harder in a short time... And I mix this stuff as per data sheet 4:1:1 but as I say I'm getting in ok with it

fair enough last time I used solid 2k paint, had it under two infra reds and let it fully cure off for around a month. clear coat would dry faster than solid plus it won't fade lol! but try and see about any small infrared panels and leave it on one panel for around 20-30 minutes maybe longer. check to see if the data sheet on the paint you used has an infra red drying time

I think when it come to my xr2 I'm gunna hunt down some cellulose

From what I remember it just gives temps etc on the sheet but I will double check it tomorrow, I do have them 4 halogen heaters which do get it fairly warm in there, there struggling to get a decent temp now, but its a big old workshop with high roof and its stone built, even in the hight of summer it feel like air con has been on, hence the plastic seen in pics to give it a lower ceiling, and separate one room from another to keep heat in.
It's not as bad as I've maybe come across, it drys ok and I have masked on new paint about a week later, but tbh it could do with time to harden off, even still I'm not gunna mop the crap out of it, not that it needs much IMO, I'll just lightly do it I think.

Small update at weekend will come, not much has been done to this this week, clarks over and odds and sods are being done to it, and some work to his mk2 as he has the use of me and my gear

fair enough give it a whole month or so it should fully harden up and cure well. if you can from time to time give a bit of heat to see if it speeds it up a little.

Ah yeah it will have plenty of time to fully harden, I won't be mopping for a while and the main body has been painted for a couple
Months at least now.
As for heat, heaters are on every time I'm out there, as its cold in work shop as said above

I have been painting cars for 15 years now and it is as they say "all in the prep" and your prep work looks spot on :D

I have used spray booths and make shift booths and even sprayed outside before now and you can get just as good a finish if you take your time, all a booth does is speed up the process i.e 30 minute bake etc.

Keep it up mate good job. :Q
