Excellent work, Steve, You've always been an inspiration.
Are you around on Sunday 20th? I'm taking the girlfriend away for a weekend, and it would be good to stop by your place on the way back, maybe you can get Lib involved and we could all go for some food?

It sounds normal at first, but if you look deeper he is clearly implying a midnight glory hole session in deepest Somerset. . In time you will learn that with Mark, it is always about either glory holes or dogging in carparks.
Steve, you work astonds me!

Re: The ST170 Track prepped Mk1, Update, 10-07-08 Shell Painted
Thanks for the positive comments.
Mark, would love to mate. I know just the place, they serve meat in various states of cook, and mucho other good feasts. They also serve some rather fine Ciders! Give us a call some time.
Sphinx, My brother is handy with many engineering tools too, (must be in the genes) he made the pulley. I think Mark may be high on something, because I have to agree, he sounds almost normal!
Nomad, Thanks man! Hopefully we can all be on the track together at some point this year, or next maybe.
Fezzy Turbo, Thanks mate, I think it should be a fairly capable little car.
rsonblackwheels, Thanks for your comments. It's your lucky day, the cars painted!
I have had a fairly busy day today, I've been getting the paint finally sorted.
I stone chipped the inner wheel arches, and the floor of the car.
I then primed the whole lot again:
Then on went the matt black. I wasn't sure about it to start with, but it actually looks pretty cool!
So she can go back on her wheels tomorrow, and some interesting bits to do, whoop!

one thing I have always wondered though is how you care for paint when it's matt? I assume you don't polish it, but what would you do to protect the paint?

The main reason it's matt is because he's not bothered about polishing or waxing it, it's there to be used. If the paint goes crap for any reason, we just repaint it! In Fairness, 5 litres of matt black is £25. Thats less than some polishes!!

Re: The ST170 Track prepped Mk1, Update, 11-07-08 Loads done!!
Thanks for everyones comments again!
I'm doing pretty well so far, we're on day seven of the build!
Now all the crap work is done, the interesting stuff can happen, and it has been!
Firstly this morning, I went about modifying the clutch to be hydraulic rather than cable. I'm using a wilwood master cylinder. I started by making a small pivot out of mild steel, with a thread for the master cylinder, I also strengthened up the pedal and made the 'output' on the opposite side:
I then went about making the master cylinder fit the actual pedal box:
An action shot from welding the pedal box:
And then a great photograph of the box finished:
Fitted to the car:
I also finished modifying the bias pedal box and fitted that at the same time:
I then moved on to fitting the front suspension, including the Leda's. You can see the brackets I had machined up to locate the 4-pot wilwood calipers:
A view fitted:
The view from behind with the wheels on:
Jim proved his worth earlier by helping spike fit the new rear perspex windows:
James from next door, JEK, strengthened up the gearbox mount for me too, from where I had modded it:
I managed to start getting things like the loom back in, and the headlights in:
The head was returned today too, I'm real pleased with it. He's done a fantastic job of opening out and matching the ports:
It's genuinely hard to tell the change over from head to manifold!!
Pictures speak a thousand words and all that, so there you are.
The engine will be built back up tomorrow and get it back in all being well.

I will pray to the powers that be that with the head and cams in their current spec, we can creep past 195bhp at the flywheel. Fingers crossed we can break 200! See you in the morning

Re: The ST170 Track prepped Mk1, Update, 19-07-08 ECU & Brakes
Swiss, I like to keep things moving fairly quickly! The engine spec is fairly standard all bar, ported and polished head, no cat, all pumps removed, twin Jenvey 48mm TB's, 440cc fuel injectors, emerald K3, custom exhaust system.
Thanks for your comments.
Hard to remember what I update and what I don't!
Anyways!
The arches have now been painted and fitted:
I've also installed the whole braking system now.
Including a custom handbrake cable and brakets for the rear wilwoods:
The custom clutch pedal is now linked to the slave cylinder in the box via some goodrich goodness:
I have also now made and fitted all the brake lines:
I have also made the vehicle loom, and installed the Emerald K3 ECU:
A quick one of the TB's now ready to rock & roll:
Waiting on a few bits now, the exhaust is completed and the rad is all but completed.
Hopefully running and mapping on Wednesday,
Capn
