Throttle bodies again! :o)

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby Kat on Mon May 21, 2001 10:57 am

Ok... now you lot have really got me interested in getting a bigger throttle body for my 1.8 16v as the RS1800 has the 60mm etc. I would like/love to do something like that. Is it reletively easy to do? And is it expensive?

yeah its relatively easy to do...just take the old one off and put the new one on...u might have to get it rolling roaded and set up again but im not too sure about that...it should make a considerable amount of difference when added...let me know if u got for it

what other mods u done to it?

very true - new RS1800 throttle bodies are VERy expensive, the cheapest way do sort them out is to buy a pair for a 2.0 16v Modeo which just happen to be 60mm too.

If you need any help sorting out things for ya car let me know as I've spent a fortune sorting out the good upgrades from the bad ones

Cool... aren't the Mondeo one's difficult to fit?? I definately want to do something to make it quicker... thinking about a unichip but thats £350 and I have a holiday to pay for yet!!!
I have already done bits to my Fiesta.. I have lowered it, put 16" tantrum's on it, it has meritti twin headlights, clear rear clusters, and a mondeo spoiler and a re-spray in june. So it will be looking "phat" soon but would love to make it quick as fu*k... so any suggestions are indeed welcome!!!! All I have done engine wise is fit the K&N induction kit.. the Scorpion exhaust is on its way. (Not bad for a girl hey?!)

Hi,

I'm interested in this option as well. Although i've heard that its not just a case of bolting it on, the ECU will need to be re-mapped to take advantage of it. Is this true ?.

ok, i've got a 1.8 Zetec from an Escort Si in my Fiesta, which has the smaller throttle body that is used in the XR2i 16v. K&N 57i, Piper Exhaust and no cat. I've been told that if i simply put the larger T/B from the 2.0 Mondeo i wont see any difference until i get the ECU remapped to take advantage of the increased airflow. For me i pressume this would actually mean getting it chipped, as i've got the standard ECU that is used for the 1.8 Escort Si. Ermmm... just so the above makes sense its a G-reg XR2i, so i converted from a 1.6 CVH.

Any help on this one please guys ?

Cheers,

Bill

so you're using the 105bhp engine eh !! - there should be no need to remap the ECU after you've put the larger throttle bodies on, try and put an uprated cam kit on the car at the same time and you'll see some nice power gains.

If anyone wants to see what a modified Zetec (non-turbo) engine can do just give me a buzz and I'll show ya mine

Hi,

The Escort Si Engine is 115bhp like the 1.8 Zetec from the Mondeo. Plus i dont have the CAT, and i've got a full s/s exhaust and K&N 57i. I whooped my friends Saxo VTS, and thats supposed to be 120bhp

I'm going to go for the larger Throttle Boddy and see what difference i get. I've been thinking about CAMS but get a little paranoid that there just not going to make a big enough difference to warrent spending that kind of money.

£150 exchange for 22bhp Piper Race Cams - I've got them on my car and you can certainly notice them

You really need to get the car chipped if ya gonna put some cams on it, just to iron out any rough spots.

£150 exchange ... is that for the pair, or just one ?. I just imagined it would cost more than that.

Any particular Chip you recommend ?

That is for the pair - if you can afford £300 get a Unichip, failing that Superchips are ok, they don't get you much power but they sort out fueling etc quite nicely

The price on the cams is not including getting them fitted.

I used BSW (nr Brands Hatch) to carry out all my engine work, they were recomended to me by Clint (one of the senior guys @ RSOC). If you want their number let me know and I'll dig it out -

So........ is it advised that by all means get the larger throttle body and not put it on until I get it chipped? Ooohhh and i've been advised not to get cams as they affect drivability?! And yeah you with the 178 bhp zetec.. get your arse down Reading way and show me what you've done!
And RS2000 geezer... come on!!!! I want that throttle body!

Thanx

Would be nice to meet you lot, could swap modding ideas!.. Not that i have very many mods at the mo. My car looks pretty standard exept for it being lowered, and with a colour coded RS Turbo spoiler, RS Turbo Wheels, and of course the engine conversion to a 1.8 Zetec. But i'm working on it !.

Pictures are on my rather crap website.

Bill.. I had a look at your website and its not that bad!!! Your fiesta is cute :-p but as its a 1.8 now why don't you colour code the mirrors and maybe get hold of the "wing'ed" seats and make it look like one? Or are you out to fox everyone?!! (@)
