throttle body

Postby Dwayneology on Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:49 pm

Strange question to ask i think it will work,

1.8 gti escort

if i put a 2.0l throttle body on my car and put the 1.8 TPS on it

the only difference i can see is the size on the throttle plate its bigger on the 2.0l

which means more intake thus more BHP anyone disagree or can it be done easily??

cheers Darrell

Common mod to the 1.8 mate

yes the 2.0 throttle body will go on (from a mk1/mk2 mondeo)

Tps are the same on both, so no need to change it over. Might need to put the escort throttle cable bracket on the 2.0 one though, as the 2.0 barcket prob wont fit your cable 8)

It may gain 1 or 2 but what you gain in bhp you lose in torque.

Well, the different sized throttle bodies on the 2 litre have the same effect. use a 1.6 and you get good torque but lower bhp, 2.0 tb gives you higher bhp but lower torque. Needless to say I've stuck with the RS1800 tb lol.

pretty sure the rs1800 throttle body is the same size as the 2.0 anyway :bonkers: lol

been told that with the 2.0l cams and throttle body its the 130 bhp spec

due to the fact there is no egr on the gti and is standard at 115bhp

is this a load of crap

or for 130 am i looking at a 130bhp ecu

ideally yeh you would use the 130 spec ecu aswell, but then you will have all the issues with pats etc... when fitting it.

What i had on my old escort (115 spec) was the 2.0 cams throttle body and a collins powerchip and made 127 on the rolllers. Some make more power, depends on how good your engine is really. But i recon the powerchip done naff all really

my other half has a gti with piper cams, 2ltr TB,pipercross cone filter, superchip and a magnex system and it makes 143bhp on dynodynamics rolling road and 135bhp without the cams at engine advantages. so you can get good power for little money.

ashley tend to rot quite fast though should give a little extra power.

i had an ashley manifold on mine also, there alrite yeh, cheap an cheerfull, but as said, they are mild steel, so yeh rust can be an issue after time.....

but if your after a little more extra, id work on the inlet side, im not talking about poxy induction kits, more along the lines of the manifold, cuz the zetec inlets are really s**t. if you dnt want to go into throttle bodies you can adapt a rover inlet to fit, few modifications need doing, but it'll be alot better than the s**t gti plastic inlet :) run that with a sealed cone or standard airbox with a decent panel filter, with the least amount of bends in the induction piping as you can and you'll have a good intake system on the car :Q

i've actaully got a rover inlet manifold spare i was going to use it to make a zetec turbo engine with my mate

are they that much better then what i'm finding with my gti is 1st 2nd 3rd 4th the torque and acclerertion is great i mean it'll do 115 mph in fourth gear but 5th really struggles they is no go in it

i feel i need more power in that gear i know its a crusing gear but it struggles getting over 125mph and at that speed its only doing 4500rpm it just doesn't want to accelerate any faster than what it does i run out of road

so will cams, throttle body, manifold and a rover inlet give me that extra in 5th cos really thats all i want i'd be happy with that

so yeh, i recon it would
