too much torque steer...

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby mikee on Sun Jul 15, 2001 11:30 am

Just got the car superchipped and got loads of torque steer, its fun but not when pullin out to overtake cars cause it pulls you over towards the ditches, Do limited slip diffs off escorts work or should i go mental and get a quiafe ATB Diff????
Cheers

Mikee, the Escort LSD will help a cinsiderable amount....it will reduce wheel spin a fair bit...however...when running huge amounts of power, they can break easily!! How much is that diff?? What sort of power has the car got? To be honest..id just stick with the LSD from an ERST...its alot cheaper as well!

If you can afford it go for the Quaife ATB diff  I think they sell for £400 then you need to fit it........ :aaah:

The unequal length drive shafts will make bugger all difference, after all the Escort will have similar lengths to the Fiesta.

Go for the ERST LSD m8 and u'll be fine...less wheel spin and u will be getting more power down onto the road rather then wheelspin, it'll be the best move uve made m8!

LSD's increase Torque Steer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a ERST 'Box and about 180bhp and the Torque steer is madness when over taking!!
The way forward are modified lower arms from Fiesta Frenzy
LSD's reduce wheel spin though and are very good for launching but your soon need an uprated clutch!
I really rate the ERST 'box and can't wait till i get the lower arms! :Q

I have a Quaife Plate Diff in my Quaife box (I think you'll find that it is the best that money can possibly buy - for traction it is a must! - however very expensive and makes your steering VERY heavy when turning).
As for the modified lower arms from Fiesta Frenzy - Guess who's picking up Ian H's ones on Wednesday

See you at the pod when my new conversions finished! - Happy Racing Dudez!
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

This is VERY true - how can LSD be a answer to torque steer!?

Sunny.

not too sure but i know they are uprated and can cope with ALOT more extra power and just helps the car generally in driveability...supposed to be a REALLY good mod to have!

Gilly, go for modified lower arms as they will work wonders for torque steer!!! Ian Howell said to us that he could even lift his hands off the steering wheel, floor the car and it will still go in a straight line!!!! so im sure they are VERY good!! especially for Sunny and Ian to have them! look at the sort of power each of them (well Sunny) is running and howmuch Ian was running!

Right lads - seems like Paul R and Paul J are sorted by the sounds of it  - however, the price is £260 ish (if you ask nicely) - call Ian Howell on 01522 877887 - they're well worth the cash!
