Torque

Postby DanS2i on Sun Apr 13, 2003 3:03 pm

Can someone please tell me how much torque both of the XR2i's produce please, as i own a 1.8i 16v and my mate owns the 1.6i and I just wondered which produces more torque!

Cheers

I'd say the 1.8 16v because of the larger engine capacity, but don't know any accurate figures.
Clio 1.8 16v - 144.7BHP@6650RPM & 133.8lb/ft@4801RPM
1/4 mile in 15.2s @ 91.3mph

Dont know about the torque, but the 8V is faster. (somehow)

torque

Postby DanS2i on Mon Apr 14, 2003 1:50 pm

Thats what I was thinking because of the bigger engine!

My mate and I pulled off from the lights and I was keeping up with him in his 8v which was rolling roaded at 120bhp!

But I am just trying to find out the torque for both of them to know for definate!

torque

I'm sure that the top speed for the 16v can't be right as I am sure that it goes faster than that, not that I have driven my car that fast!! :D

Does anyone know where I could find the torque figure out then :-?

Yeah i dont think the figures are right. When i had an 8v xr2i, my mate got the 16v version and i had a go of his thinking that there would be nothing in it. Man did that thing pull!!!. We then raced and he had me easily!. I've now got a Zetec-S with exhaust, filter and chip and that thing seriously pulls too :D. Had it on the rollers after the chip, got 115bhp with peak torque of 123lb.ft.

No offence to any owners of 8v 2i's here but i dont rate them much!. I dont find them very revable and i hate the lack of torque compared to Zetec engines. This is from experience of 3 xr3i's and an xr2i.

I agree Codey - I've owned them both - there's no comparison - the CVH is so 'fluffy' on the throttle - the Zetec is a much nicer drive and keeps on pulling where the CVH just gets' asthmatic.

wayhey some people agreeing with me on the 8v vs 16v 2i thing :D :D

for some reason everyone seems to think that 16v 2i's are really slow, but there not, i mean there not rapid or nothing but they are far from slow. The torque makes them soooo much more fun to drive than the 8v :D

ive driven both and i would defo have the 16v everytime even my bro (muttleymclad) says he would have mine and he has the 8v.

Thats exactly what made me get a 1.8 Zetec engine from a breakers and had the 1.6 CVH replaced in my old 2i. After i did, i was always then neck and neck with my mates 2i, but never was when i had the cvh. I love the Zetec engines, there just so torqy and rev happy :D
